Link Building: Asking for links versus building links
Great discussion. Here is what we do with some success. We don't do link requests, we do content requests. Thinking what a web master wants, we can write and deliver content for them. A guest blog is an excellent example, but there are many other content suggestions you can make. A half page glowing testimonial about there services will often get published. A tips page related to what they do might be very helpful for them. Think like the web master, be there friend, an the links and citation will follow.

Inbound Links from Web Pages Based in Other Countries
If you have relevant links from other countries they would help your rank but with the recent Panda updates from Google, if they are spammy sites, webfarms or paid links they will hurt your rankings. We participate on blogs and provide articles internationally that are on topic which help boost our rank, we even send products to reviewers overseas for evaluation.

NEW LINKS
Sure, if the site already has 100's of links, can you now start adding 40+ a month. The idea is to not have 100 link in June and 3 links in July through September, then 100 links again in October. (unless there is a large PR release, or another reason for large volumes of inbound links to occur) I would first say to start looking at pages that do not have these number of links and build them up. Home Page: 1,000's of links Product Category Page: 100's of links Product Page: 1-5 links Build links to this deep page first if you can. (make sure you have a 301 plan in place for dropped pages)

Selfgrowth.com - Any good?
No, this isn't a site I'm affiliated with. I'm curious to see what positive or negative input users have in regards to link building/article marketing.

Clarification needed regarding link building
Yes absolutely. The sooner you start the sooner you start building trust and authority points for the site even in it's current form.

What are the best Content Syndication services?
All things considered, it's best to avoid syndication services, as the vast majority of them are geared toward mass-link building spam. The best examples of content syndication done right in our niche are our very own SEOmoz and HubSpot. Both companies have a wide variety of content dispersed amongst all of the highest-quality sources (their own blogs, press releases, other authoritative blogs, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Slideshare, etc.) It's manual by nature, but it works. There are, however, some great syndication services for specific tasks: Video: TubeMogul Press Releases: PR Web Social Media: HootSuite I hope that helps!

Juicy Link Finder not working?
Hi Marcos, Here's a response from the help desk regarding Juicy Link Finder (specifically regarding unicode characters) that I copied from http://www.seomoz.org/q/juicy-link-finder-doesn-t-support-hebrew-utf8-input. I'm asking the help team to come take a look at this thread and see if they have any more suggestions for your case, but this should help in the meantime. Keri Morgret, SEOmoz associate Hi Kevin I feel like I've got to be honest with you. It's an old tool and we're not very proud of it anymore. It doesn't take advantage of our awesome web index, or all the cool analysis we've done around powerful links. We're working instead to replace it with more powerful link tools. Our newer tools are built to support Unicode, but most of our older ones don't. Sorry about that! For example, I think you'd be much better off trying our Competitive Link Research Tool (it's in Labs and therefore sometimes gets overloaded, but it's so cool when it works!), or even running your competitors through Open Site Explorer. www.seomoz.org/labs/link-intersect www.opensiteexplorer.org The bottom line is that Juicy Link Finder is unstable and doesn't support Unicode (because we're deprecating it in favor of new technologies), and it doesn't give you very sophisticated results.

Does linking to a subdomain give link juice to the main domain?
Yeah it can get really confusing. Here's the concept. Each Root domain can have many subdomains, as well as sub-folders. Any link pointing to any subdomain or subfolder will provide some linking value to the entire root. It's not as much as that individual subdomain or subfolder gets, however the cumulative impact is there and it's real. The reason is pretty straight forward - any sub, (domain or folder) is naturally associated with the root. It contributes to the overall weight of that root. It's not unlike the branches of a tree. While the rain may fall directly on a branch, some of the water has the ability to work it's way back to the main trunk of the tree. Just like water that seeps into the ground and soaks into the roots, can and will work it's way up the trunk and to the branches.

How do I get Bing to recognize my site as a "News" source?
I don't personally have any experience with this, but I have heard that it's harder than getting into Google News. Until someone else chimes in, this post at Search Engine Roundtable might help. http://www.seroundtable.com/bing-news-13146.html

Has anyone seen positive results from using Submiteaze to submit to directories? I know an SEM agency that uses it for clients' link building campaigns, but I don't know if it is worth buying. Are there better alternatives?
Submiteaze may include at least some quality directories. Personally, I've never seen a niche- market high quality directory that allows anything other than direct submission though.

"high authority" links
In addition to the items that Big Bazza mentioned, the Google Toolbar can track visit information, when the visitor has it installed.
