Link Farming
I believe there is a significant difference between a link farm and a directory. And although there are likely going to be differences in how everyone views the two, the basic differences to me are: Link Farms: -No editorial discretion in who is linked to -No editorial discretion in how one is linked to -Often generally require a return link or triangular link -Free for all approach to posting a link -Often no real review process in terms of quality -Do not have clearly defined guidelines for the process -Allow you to link in any way you want (link anchor) -Do not have content and promotional guidelines for content -Created specifically to manipulate SERPs via surgical text link manipulation Quality Directories (I believe there are about 15 total of these on the Internet myself) -Editorial discretion in who is linked to -Editorial discretion in how one is linked to -do not require any link to be listed -Review process in terms of quality -Have clearly defined guidelines for the process -Link to you as a business -Have content and promotional guidelines for content -Created to provide value to searchers I would stay away from link farms to be sure.

Linkbuilding on deep Blog pages
The search engine spiders will look at a page to determine if something has changed. If there is a 10% change in body content, then it might not require a re-index for the spiders. If the heading tags change, then it might deserve a refresh. I think your link will be indexed eventually, but if nothing else on the page changes, it's going to take longer.

Question on Links from Directories…
Here is the question you posted: Just because the link is picked up by OSE does that mean that the search engines value it too? The answer is very simple: no. However, there is a relationship between the OSE data and Google data. This relationship is not causation. It's correlation. This doens't mean that if you have a link picked up by OSE it will necessarily be picked up by Google. It means that links that tend to be picked up by OSE also tend to be picked up by Google. I hope this helps!

Backlinks not showing up in the campaign crawl
Thank you Richard. I have been reviewing some of my questions to post updates on what happened since. It seems that some of the backlinks took 4 or 5 months to show up on the report. So perhaps the lower quality links can take longer if they are on small sites who do not get much indexing action.

Is it possible to find the highest authority websites for links based on a specific search phrase?
The highest authority sites are not always going to be at the top, they could just be top for that phrase but their overall domain authority could be lower than 2nd, 3rd etc. I use Chrome and the SEOmoz tool bar - enable the SERP overlay and it tells you the search results Page Authority and Domain Authority - These are SEOmoz ratings but I find them to be better than Google's page rank.

Is it ever the case that a link isn't worth having?
Thanks Steve, might as well go for it then. It is a friend of ours. Thanks.

Is there a crowd-sourced and up-to-date list of do-follow social bookmarking sites?
There is http://www.searchenginepeople.com/blog/22-dofollow-social-media-sites-offering-profile-links.html which has updates provided in the comments. SEOMoz also provides a good resource at: http://www.seomoz.org/article/social-media-marketing-tactics#101-social-media-sites Both of these are mentioned in the book The Art of SEO

Linkbuilding for Clients? Do I create new email account for outreach?
I never respond to anyone using a gmail account. I always think it's someone who doesn't know who to set up an email.

Does it affect SEO of how quickly you get in-bound links?
I agree with you Asim. An example I recall was where an existing site for a mining company gained a lot of links and attention after a mining accident. Search engines can identify when there is major news on a topic and an increase in related links.

Making deep links to your page on BBB or DMOZ - Effective or waste of time?
Google crawls based on a priority-system that is tied, at least in part, to the value of each page. A high-value page will be updated more often than a low-value page, theoretically. Of course, the regularity with which pages are updated on the site will have an impact on the crawl rate as well. Both DMOZ and BBB are updated fairly regularly, so my vote would be to spend your time building links to your own site rather than these other linking pages. If they haven't been spidered yet by Google, I would try tweeting them out to a few friends who, in turn, retweet them, to see if you can convince Google that it is worth taking a look at. Beyond that, don't waste your time helping someone else's page rank, build the links directly to your own.

Linking from Blogs
Yes, using the same anchor text and linking to the same page repeatedly doesn't look very natural.

Does a Squidoo lens 'Big Arrow Link' actually work for SEO or should I link within the text of the lens?
Link from within the text of the lens. Place the text link as high as possible, ideally in the first text box.

Link Bait Question
I agree with EGOL, The specific page that link is directed to will acquire the most benefit or "linkjuice" value. However your site will also get benefited as a whole which includes your root domain. Offcourse everyone's SEO strategy should focus on gaining a strong domain authority (strong root domain), and the best way this can be done is through deep inner links in your content pages. Also good internal link structure to really pass the linkjuice from page to page.

A little confused
How long would it usually take for a web page to start appearing on page 1 of google. Some pages will appear on page 1 the first day the page is online. Other pages will never make the first page. There are many factors involved which include your site's links, the page's links, how well the page is optimized for the keyword involved and how much competition there is for the given keyword. Any suggestion for airport parking keyword will be much appreciated As Steve mentioned, your first step would be to determine your locations. Your home page mentions "Airport Parking services provided at - Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Liverpool & Leeds". When I look at the page, it seems optimized mainly for Manchester. This is a problem. You may want to have your home page be a generic "UK Airport Parking" page, and then offer specific pages for each individual airport. This approach will lead to better rankings for each of the 9 areas your site covers. Also, by removing the other 8 airport listings from the Manchester page, you will be better optimized and not have your focus diluted.

Should i ask for inbound links from our 9k business members?
Thanks for the reply i noticed on the Learn SEO tab above on the myths page for beginners it says "Having your own version of the Yahoos directory on your site isn’t helping your users, nor is it helping your SEO" I have a links page for reciprocal links is this helping my seo or not?

What is the best wording you have seen in an outreach email?
My most successful emails have consisted of the following Ego-Stroking: Make them feel like they are important and valuable WIFM: People want to know what are they getting first before you can really grab their attention and negotiate a link/social mention/interview/ etc. Personalized: Obviously don't be a robot and try to be genuine. Also when contacting other webmasters/bloggers try to find out what kind of person they are, meaning are they humorous, boring, academic, liberal, etc. The reason why is because people enjoy like minded individuals, so if you find a webmaster/blogger that tries to be funny in their blog posts than try to add some kind of humor in your email outreach. This might sound like a sketchy method, but I have seen some good results out of trying to personalize my emails to match the webmasters/bloggers personality.
