Press Releases Weekly
Sorry to bug you again, Is there a specific reason that you use naked urls is it just to avoid getting hit by google? If so using naked urls in press releases would not serve any seo purpose at all? Only using the traffic the PR generates itself to direct your traffic? Thanks so much for your help today!

Exact Domain Match URL
All of my important sites are on keyword.com domains. They give you a very small ranking advantage. And, in early 2011, I believe that google reduced the small advantage that they have. Google could do that again at any time and this strategy turns to crap. I use keyword.com domains because I think that they convert well. The ranking advantage is very small. When you are in very easy SERPs that domain, a couple of links and some smart on-page optimization will get you a good ranking. However, when the competition gets tough you are in a battle of resources and smarts and that domain isn't going to be nearly as helpful. I use these domains and get my ass kicked frequently. If I was playing for easy SERPs where these domains alone could win position I would not use them. If the SERPs are that easy I would just put a highly optimized page on my site and kick their asses.

No Follow User Profiles?
Yeah they are legit for now. I already told them to do the no-follow so I think it should be okay.

#1 in yahoo and bing, not in top 50 in google. Why is that?
Hi Michael! Thank you for your response. Site is pretty old ( >10 years) but I totally redone it few months ago and submitted through google webmasters tools. url is beaverlandscape dot com Keywords: Site Grading Burnaby, Site Grading Vancouver, Levelling Ladner, No Maintenance Backyard Port Moody. ( #1 in bing, most of them #1 in yahoo but not in top 50 in google) Probably it's just google feature. looks like bing likes exact match and that's why i'm on first place.

Which links should I begin with if I have been flagged as building unnatural links?
I'm interested in your analysis here, Takeshi Young. Doe you believe that, because Butler Raines has only a small number of undesirable links, that it will take only a small number to dilute them? If so, where is the tipping point? That is, at what point does it stop being feasible to build one's way out of trouble? Thanks DP

Showing For Long Tail Keywords - Not Targeted?
It's usually a combination of both. Sometimes you see gradual movements in SERPS, but then what you may be seeing is something like a "Getting out of the Sandbox" effect. It's what used to happen very very widely and to some extent, still does. Brand new site tend not to rank for a considerable amount of time, often referred to as the Sandbox period and then once they get out of sandbox (after attaining some domain authority), you'd technically see a spike in traffic and rankings and your situation might be something similar to that.

Joomla's weblink component, do the links count as backlinks?
Wow lots of different views on if they count or not...

Link from or 301 Domains?
Make the decision based on the business case, not which might have the most SEO benefit. If they are are their own businesses, with their own customers then those should be the first concerns not how to push PR around. Presumably they were acquired for a purpose. That purpose should guide what happens.

SEO Firm recommendations?
I would also like to add that since you are talking about just "External Links", and obviously there can't be any "paid" links, you need to ensure there's a good diversification of the kinds of links you attain. There are companies out there that do Press Releases, Directory Submissions, Guest Posts and so on. If you as a client only has "links" as deliverable, it's going to be tough. And I don't think it's your best measure of success. It might make sense to hire a full time or part time person local that is either already a link builder or can be trained. Doing too many links of the same type often leads to problems and then a few months later you might be looking for somebody trying to get rid of some of the bad links built in the process. It's always in your best interest to try and hire somebody inhouse if that makes sense and if that has not worked for you or is not making sense financially, I am not sure if an agency or a firm out there can build quality links with the kind of quality control one may need on incoming links. You know what I mean. I hope this helps.

Are directories still an option for linkbuilding
Eric, Sure. If there are barriers to get in a directory, that will help prohibit many "spammy" type links. So a barrier made be a paid listing (TN, MacRae's, GlobalSpec & etc.), a vertical directory (where only sites that are contextual relevant apapera) or any directory that are selective. Personally, we have had much luck with ThomasNet (not so much with GlobalSpec). However, like you said, it requires a bit of work. If you have any questions about TN, let me know as we have used for many years.

Has anyone used RMOOV or Remove'em for link profile cleanup?
Hi 858-SEO, First, for the disclosure: RMOOV is developed by our company. Now, the significant difference between the two products is that Remove'em offers automated advice on which links you should remove based on anchor text, metrics comparison etc. When developing RMOOV we made the deliberate decision not to try to tell people which links they should remove because we believe that accurate analysis is paramount and should be carefully managed by a human. Once the analyis has been completed and users have a list of URLs they wish to remove, that list can be uploaded into RMOOV, which then manages the entire process of finding contact information, creating and sending customized email, recording and tracking responses and reporting on campaign activity. The tool allows users to make Notes on domain status, update domain information via csv upload, mark contact methods unavailable etc. Hope that helps, Sha

Should we follow the same with our Press Releases, lately we've been doing approx 400 words per release with roughly 1 link per 100 words. Would you recommend less? Thanks
| TP_Marketing0 -
Is this link actually followed?
Facebook used to do something similar for external links. I think it all depends on how their script redirects to the destination website. Try putting the link into a redirect checker and see if it's using a 301 redirect or not.
