  • For the most part you don't really have H1 tags. A few pages have like "Video" as the H1 - which is not very descriptive. This page: http://brandstenmedia.com.au/aerial  has TWO h1 tags but most of the rest barely have one. I would write more descriptive H1 tags that explain what's on the page (think like a very descriptive book title.)  I would expand your H1 tags and push the weight from H2 to H1 just for organisational purposes, if nothing else. (Your H2s aren't bad ... the H1s are just a bit too simple)

  • That's really interesting that I show up at #2 in the US I have never thought about ads on my site as I didn't want anything to detract anyones attention from booking me, however if the ads did not show in the UK that that would be awesome - I will look into it. Regards, Roger

  • I have over 800,000 pages total that contain duplicate content "if" that is an issue with my definitions. I would assume that Panda would slap me hard for that, again "if" that is the issue. Since I have never tried to deindex this many pages I am hoping this works and I will take a few coffee breaks waiting because its going to be a while lol I have nothing to lose and I feel like I have tried a ton. Thanks so much

  • Hey thanks for commenting. I know that this is a valid method to code, but I am curious about the SEO effect. This is a new feature in HTML5 and I am curious if anyone has done any research to see whether Google is keeping up with this changing landscape and giving anchor-text-benefit to anything linked by the method in the original post. OR is no anchor text being detected.

  • What if you take two existing sites, and merge them into the same magento install for example.  But do what you suggest and have both sites run different product names, descriptions etc.  So from the front end the user would know no different, but searching records you would see the two sites run on the same server, under the same install of magento?

  • Hi there I would also add here that you can look into a sitemap generator which will update and maintain your sitemap for you so that you don't have to manually do so. This can be quite tedious, especially if you are handling multiple listings and adding/removing them, so having a generator can hugely benefit you. This is a great time saver! Hope this alleviates a bit for you - good luck!

  • I have a very simple logic to deal with this problem. I agree that having too many links on the page is not a very good idea both from the search engine as well as from the user point of view in many cases but there are times when you can’t do anything about it. I think the better idea is to see if the link that you are placing on the page are important from the user point view if they are then let it be but if you can reduce them, then you ideally should. The idea is to think about users first and then about search engines guidelines. Hope this helps!

  • Hi Karom Everything you need to know is in the Google Webmaster Tools Sitemap guide and Change Googlebot crawl rate. You can also learn about frequencies and modification information in the Build a sitemap guide as well. Here are some sitemap generators to help maintain and recrawl your sitemap so it's upto date. Hope this all helps - good luck!

  • We're all students of the game. I hope I never stop learning about marketing. I had read about the sitemap implementation but never tried it. Then I ran into an enterprise client who has over 40,000 indexed pages & 20 separate languages. One of the languages didn't have a subfolder but all the rest did. Instead of coding it in, I figured my way through sitemaps & thought it was SO much easier in the end. I've used it a few times since and it's great.

  • Hi there While this isn't necessarily a bad thing (at least in my opinion), what I would do is instead have a link or brand logo in the product description or below it that links to the assortment of said brand name. From a user experience standpoint, I would be more likely to click the logo or a "See more mens Arc'teryx products" under the description. Also, H1s are usually not links, especially on eCommerce websites - so users would not think to click that. These are just my thoughts - either have a link or logo that links to your assortment of branded products, but not in the H1. That's my two cents! Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • In the real world most people use the least number of words when searching for something to get the most relevant results.  based on the data I see (and the examples you provided), it's fairly clear more people search without using "find" in their search query. While it is true that you can still optimize a site for "lawyers in ____" even if you include "find" in the page Title, the more precise the topical refined understanding a page has to a specific search query based on common intent, the more likely that page will be able to properly rank for that situation. So while you can include "find" in the page Title, I wouldn't recommend it in this case.

  • Hi John Nobody but Google can tell you for sure - but if I compare both pages & check the guidelines here: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.be/2015/03/an-update-on-doorway-pages.html the site doesn't look like a typical doorway page: 1.Is the purpose to optimize for search engines and funnel visitors into the actual usable or relevant portion of your site, or are they an integral part of your site’s user experience? => the user experience on the vanity url is better than the standard page on the Hilton side. The only moment when you lead your visitors to the main site is when they want to book 2.Are the pages intended to rank on generic terms yet the content presented on the page is very specific? You're site seems optimised for people searching for this specific hotel - not hotels in general or any other generic terms 3. Do the pages duplicate useful aggregations of items (locations, products, etc.) that already exist on the site for the purpose of capturing more search traffic? You don't exactly duplicate - you enrich the content in order to offer your visitors (and not the search engines) a better experience. 4. Are these pages made solely for drawing affiliate traffic and sending users along without creating unique value in content or functionality? This point is definitely not the case 5. Do these pages exist as an “island?” Are they difficult or impossible to navigate to from other parts of your site? Are links to such pages from other pages within the site or network of sites created just for search engines? Yes it is an island - but in that case you could see any hotel site as doorway page for a site like Booking.com when they use the Booking search engine. To be honest, I would not be too worried. The goal of this update to eliminate pages will low added value, that only exist to rank & to funnel visitors to the main site. The example you gave has a high added value, and you're not funnelling to the main site (apart for booking purposes). Hope this helps, Dirk

  • Like Patrick said, schema is still important in general.  However, since video snippets for private sites (all but YouTube, Vimeo, etc) died a while back, it might not be worth your while to pursue implementing this markup.  I might focus my efforts elsewhere (beefing up content, building quality links, etc) in order to get the best results from my work.

  • Thank you for your response.  There is clearly some great advice which I will apply. However, it's just popped up on the top page for 'mid year diaries 15-16'. Panic over  But it's great that we have some other things we can now apply to the page. Thank you very much
