  • Hi Dan, Thanks for this! I had initially asked and then without getting an answer had to go dig around and figure this out myself. At the end of the day I made it happen! Thanks for looking through this again. Ill mark it as answered!

  • I honestly believe that Google probably knows what users are doing on your website with or without GA, and that GA is just a way for them to show it to you.

  • Hi, About point one: Links in comments can be a great addition to your posts if they are legit and an extent of your post. Typically this is not the case with most comment links. Make sure you clean up any spammy (promotional) links or work with a trusted user system. This way you can promote legit user that are actively participating on your blog to post (do)follow links. I know Yoast.com works that way on their blog. About point two: This discussion on Moz should provide you with an answer: https://moz.com/community/q/do-pingbacks-in-wordpress-help-or-harm-seo-or-neither I hope this helps! Best regards, Bob

  • Cheers Everett. You have definitely reset my thinking, id started to make it over complex for myself. The content for the resolution / category pages will create a lot of duplicate issues due to the unavoidable similarities, i will take a combination of solutions provided here and try to consolidate resolution and capacity into broader categories that can be written about as you suggest with less overlap. I will look to no-index smaller categories that would be thin and cause issues but remain essential. I will also stick to my plan and consolidate the "types of widget" onto the main widget page. This will move them a step up the hierarchy and allow me a wider scope of content on the main parent page. All product urls are  homepage.co.uk/product.html by default so shouldnt cause issue in multiple urls. I have also implimented automatic canonical tags on all cateogry and products to combat any accidental duplications.

  • Patrick  -  Great response, really appreciate the effort you put into that and the solid strategy.   I do have a spreadsheet where I've mapped each page and related analytics, i.e. traffic to each page over time, meta tag info, PR, age, url, etc, and very few are driving any significant traffic so those are easy decisons.   The few that ARE getting some decent traffic just make me think it's worth any temporary slippage for longer term benefit of being better optimized, presenting a clear theme for each page for both visitors and search engines.  Knowing I'll retain 90% of the trust/authority by doing the 301 redirects makes it seem clear that's the right call. I've added several of the link references you included in your response to my reading list for this week, they look like great resources.   Thanks!

  • Thanks Patrick, this is really helpful! I'll look into using the reviews in other ways, there's hundreds of them so it would be a shame to not use them to the fullest. Thanks again, Bas

  • Hi Guys, It's been a while, and the .com site is now showing directly underneath .com.au site in the USA. Is there a way for the .com.au site to be removed, or to not be indexed? Thanks

  • Hi Joss, It's difficult to know how often the doorway algorithm runs, but I suspect that when they get round to it, there will be a penalty. -Andy

  • Ha! HA! Thanks for your response! I did not get into Qubool Hai because it would make everybody's head spin - therefore, I just used it as an example of a keyword. I have plenty of backlinks but most of them are not of good quality as most of the fans start their own blogs on Tumblr, Blogspot etc and have their own FB and Twitter fan pages too! With our shows getting dubbed in Russian and Bulgarian and being telecast in the Middle East, there are a lot of linking domains from these regions too - and I seem to be fighting a losing battle trying to figure out where are they coming from. As far as duplicate content is concerned - a lot of it was images, though the names of the files were different.  Now there are only a few ways I can describe a photo of an actor from XYZ set. So I stopped them from being indexed in the Yoast plugin - which I don't know is good or bad! Which brings me back to my primary question - I don' t know what I am doing and that is scary. Anyway, I am going to write to a few of the companies listed here and see how it goes. Thanks once again.

  • Hi there As long as your internal link structure is natural and your information architecture is natural, I wouldn't be too concerned. From the sound of things, all of these links fall into relevant categories for their respective brands and models. One thing I would be on the look out though, depending on how your URL structure is set up, are potential duplicate content issues. I would run through that resource with your web development team and try to tackle any of those you see, if they exist. Google can pass equity through PDFs, but I would be careful, because at the end of the day, just make sure your user experience is the best it could possibly be for your audience. If you want to learn more about optimizing PDFs, check out this resource from Search Engine Journal. Lastly, I would run a comb through your on-site SEO - your title tags could use some work and you could also optimize your eCommerce experience as well. InFlow has a lot of great resources for this sort of thing if you want some reading and ideas. Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • Hi Linda, Thanks for your answer Just wish to confirm if the first option "buy fruit cake & bread" will capture the keywords "fruit cake" and "fruit bread" as I wish to save the space for more other information in title tag. I guess it is a balance we have to make, to be more clear or to be more concise. Thanks for all the other answers.

  • This is a hard question to answer without knowing the reasons why your site is possibly under performing on page speed tests. There could be a variety of reasons. I'd recommend a caching plugin, and that your images are all appropriately sized and then, as Stramark suggests, you could look at a CDN to help alleviate the problem. A new theme/template may help, but is unlikely to be any sort of silver bullet.

  • HI Charles, If you run down the route of adding additional subfolders, you are very likely to be caught by the new Doorway Page algorithm. if you have pages for pages sake, then it could get messy. Here is what Google has to say about them. Here are questions to ask of pages that could be seen as doorway pages: Is the purpose to optimize for search engines and funnel visitors into the actual usable or relevant portion of your site, or are they an integral part of your site’s user experience? Are the pages intended to rank on generic terms yet the content presented on the page is very specific? Do the pages duplicate useful aggregations of items (locations, products, etc.) that already exist on the site for the purpose of capturing more search traffic? Are these pages made solely for drawing affiliate traffic and sending users along without creating unique value in content or functionality? Do these pages exist as an “island?” Are they difficult or impossible to navigate to from other parts of your site? Are links to such pages from other pages within the site or network of sites created just for search engines? By the sounds of things, I suspect you would fall into at least one of those grey areas. if they were to be produced, you would have to be able to justify them very well with lots of supporting content that was genuinely useful. -Andy
