Explore on-page optimization and its role in a larger SEO strategy.

  • Hi, How old is this site? Has it been given enough time to start to rank well amongst your competitors? One term / one page is the general thought that you should follow as this is the safest way to make sure you don't fall into keyword duplication / cannibalisation and makes for a much more straight forward strategy. Just remember to try and keep the pages as targeted as possible and add amazing content that is backed up by strong supplementary content. Make the page great for visitors and you will start to see returns. -Andy

  • Hi Mark! When writing blogs for our clients I make the photo link to "none" UNLESS it is a brand logo or something of the like that can link to the brand/manufacturer's website. I find that this could negatively impact the user experience if they click the photo only to realize it brings them to a webpage that only shows the image. The most important information when adding a photo is the ALT tag. This lets the crawlers know what the image is of. If I were you, I would ensure all the photos being added have an image ALT tag but do not link to just the image file to ensure positive user experience. Hope this helps!

  • Hi Joycee_psp! I'd love to help answer your question if you could provide more information on what you are seeing on the SERP. Could you provide more details or a screen shot? Thanks!

  • In a roundabout way, yes, that is the general idea. Decide on the page, create a title that suggests the objective of the page (Learn about Heavy Haulage | Freight Etc Inc). Google is very good at understanding that Haulage will also mean Haul, Hauliers etc, so try to fill the page with lots of related information. Talk about transporting of abnormal loads, types of trailers, training required, etc. Make the page as informative as possible. When it comes to finding the keywords to use and research, look for what others talk about that are doing well in Google and then give your own spin on this - although I don't mean spin the content. Spend some time making your content better than the sites above you. -Andy

  • Bad SEO can be really disruptive to your ranking performance. It sounds like this person may have been using black hat link building techniques and decided to remove them once you parted ways. There are ways to monitor and remove bad links that may negatively impacting your rankings. We have done this for many clients at GetBackOnGoogle.com to recover rankings after bad SEO work. It involves identifying incoming negative links and strategically requesting removal. In some cases you may need to disavow backlinks through Google Search Console, but the best option is to get them removed manually if possible first. You can use the Moz Open Site Explorer to review and monitor inbound links. If you truly think someone may have done something malicious, I would also recommend a full SEO audit to see if the setup of your website or SEO plugins have changed in any way and to make general improvements since your rankings have dropped. You'll also want to start working on content and building legitimate backlinks of your own from related sites in your industry. Mark / AdFicient.com

  • If you can 301 redirect the events page to your recording of the webinar, that would be the ideal situation.

  • Hi Laura, thank you very much for the advice. No we don't need users to access the redundant categories, there is no unique content on them. I can arrange to have the 301 put in place Thanks

  • Thanks for your response BlueCorona! The pages concerned are for products and the 'wraparound' text regards free delivery and next day delivery - this is relevant to all the pages and also helpful to tempt the user to click as it's pretty much the best deal in the country. Would you still say that is detrimental? Individual meta descriptions over time... we have 25,000 products and add / remove many products on a daily basis so I don't think it's really a realistic option.

  • Hello! Sorry, I have the same problem on my site (www.2become1.it). For example, in this page www.2become1.it/wedding-videographer-italy/engagement-chris-caterina/ i find this url: http://www.2become1.it/wedding-videographer-italy/engagement-chris-caterina/feed/ that doesn't exist. I can't clean up head in SEO Yoast because the plugin's author disabled this option in the new version. Any suggest? Thanks Marco

  • Hi David, Thanks for the response we'll discuss trying that!  We actually only have the .com version which is why you're only seeing that version. Thanks again for your input I will let you know whether that has any effect. Vic

  • Hi Engine Brasil, I have to agree with Thomas! While I have never tried this tactic, I would not do so in fear that it would devalue the other H1s on the site. As we know, it's important to have only one H1 per page. The search crawlers use the H1 to understand what your page is about so they can show it for relevant search queries. By creating multiple heading tags, you run the risk of confusing the crawlers and ultimately hurting your changes to rank on the SERPs. Hope this helps! I'd be interested to know what you find out if you test this.

  • No worries, read it a while back here on Search Engine Land. I haven't encountered the transparent logo problem before but have several industry friends that experienced this issue. Cheers, B search?q=white+transparent+logo&espv=2&biw=2204&bih=1278&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj1opy0vP3NAhUC8GMKHcnFBKwQ_AUIBigB

  • I've had a look at your site (it's in the htaccess) I've run a crawl on your site, there doesn't seem to be any redirect chains, which is good, so you've got no issues with what you have above. However on a side note, I wouldn't rely on 301 redirects, you still have a lot of "old" links that are going through 301 redirects, I would update these so they don't need to pass through a redirect.

  • I was writing about URLs. I think it's fine to have your brand name in most or all title tags, though I'm not sure I'd apply that to an exact-match domain like yours without adding the .com too (as in " - IceSurfing.com" not "- Ice Surfing".

  • Thanks Jordan, Unfortunately that article doesn't say much. I'm more interested in case studies. From what I've read, it's definitely not the sole reason for ranking BUT can be a ranking factor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like it would be great for "internal links" and long tail keywords.

  • Maybe the real question is why On-Page Grader is so limited in its ability to assess URLs, page titles, etc. I don't believe the tool behaves at all like Google in its assessment of content, so I wonder about using it at all. What do others use?
