We have been working with a local company to improve their SEO.

The website is http://parkerdubrulelawyers.com/

I have typed up an email for my programmer with the following comments:

One suggestion is the local address - it should have a local address (probably right below the copyright info)

Also, please check caching and xml sitemap.

Please add 2x alt tags:

edmonton lawyers
lawyers edmonton

Can you guys spot anything else that might be of use?

I forgot to mention - the original URL was http://parkerdubrule.com/ I changed it so that we could get the keyword in there. The 301 strategy does not seem to work as well these days. Do you think it needs to have more authority built, or do you think it would be a wise choice to go back to the original URL?

We have been working with a company called Provincial Movers to optimize their website. We are focusing our efforts on building external local & relevant citations, however, I can't help but think there is more we can do internally --> www.provincialmoving.com

The previous provider created a LOT of articles that are not necessarily relevant to the website like this: http://www.provincialmoving.com/blogs/

Do you guys have any suggestions for cleaning up the website so it performs better on Google?

We are doing SEO for a Calgary based company - westvalleyflooring.com

The domain was ranking really poorly (even though the website was structured quite well). This lead me to believe that it was penalized for poor links. I redirected the domain to westvalleyflooring.ca

We also improved the website structure and content. We began building citations, and eventually, after a few months, it made into page #1.

Unfortunately, after the last pinguin update, the domain virtually disappeared. We waited, but it did not become re-indexed. I elected to change the domain yet again to floorscalgary.com

That domain has now been indexed, but is on page #7. We are building citations for it, but it is a little daunting because it is so far back. Right now, the redirets look like this:

westvalleyflooring.com  --> westvalleyflooring.ca  -->  floorscalgary.com

Should it go like this:

westvalleyflooring.com  -->  floorscalgary.com

westvalleyflooring.ca  -->  floorscalgary.com

Do you agree with my decision to change the domain?

About 2 months ago we launched a brand new site - edmontonweb.ca

I have gotten some amazing advice from the folks here at Moz, and amazingly enough, we are now ranking in the top 2 in our city for keywords like "Edmonton web design."

We are very excited, but the question now, is how do we stay on top?

We are updating our blog on a weekly basis, we are continuing to build inbound links, but how can we do more? I have considered summarizing blog posts in "guest blogs," and linking back to our blog post (so not all the inbound links are directing at the home page). I have considered a more active presence through press releases. Could these strategies be effective?

Do you have any other suggestions on strategies we could utilize to stay on top?

I appreciate all of the amazing responses you have been posting over the last two days.
I have been a little tied up with Joomla 1.5 transfers, but I will make some comments soon!

In the meantime, here is an interesting one: I have an existing domain with a little bit of DA - www.edmontonweb.ca as well as a parked domain with no DA - launchwebdesign.ca

I have been advised to redirect (301) to the launch domain, but I still wonder if the current domain is better - after all it is very short & was registered over 5 years ago. Since launching the new site it has been about a month. We are currently #1 for almost every term on Bing & Yahoo (web design, edmonton web design etc.) but 14th on Google for "edmonton web design."

Do you think switching the domain is a good call, or keep trying with edmontonweb.ca for a bit longer?

I have a LOT of outbound links on the home page of www.web3.ca

Some are to clients projects, most are to other pages on the website. Can reducing this to the core pages have a positive impact on SEO?

I have read an article online that suggested that Cloudflare was bad for seo (it had a negative impact on that individuals rankings). Before reading it, I was planning to use Cloud Flare, but the article scared me off. Have you heard on anything like this.

As a result, I have been searching for an alternate CDN (like MaxCND)

Do you think CloudFlare would fix most of the issues you listed?

This question is about my main website: www.web3.ca
(run on joomla)

I just noticed a very strange occurrence - when I add ANY subdomain to the home page, it still resolves to the home page. example:

test3.web3.ca

Can this be bad for SEO, and is there a way to eliminate this?

Second Question: Do you think there are two many outgoing links on the home page of Web3? Could reducing the number of links improve the home page's performance & rank?

I have a site called www.edmontonweb.ca

It is running on Wordpress. I have installed Yoast and a component to enable database caching and decrease ttfb. So far the website is performing well, but not on the first page of Google yet. Through webmaster tools, the site is showing fairly bad scores through the Google speed test.

In your experience, are there disadvantages to running Wordpress from an seo standpoint?

Is there a specific hosting service that you would recommend to improve the performance of this site?

It is currently on page 2 and I'm trying to figure out ways to improve its ranking.

Because it is an EMD, I considered forwarding it to    www.launchwebdesign.ca

Considering there is existing Domain Authority on edmontonweb.ca, is this a good move?
Would forwarding the domain transfer DA to launchwebdesign.ca?

We just launched a new website: www.edmontonweb.ca

It is now ranking on page 2 in our city. The website is built on Wordpress and we have made every effort to make it load faster. We have enabled the right caching and we have reduced the file size.

Still, some of our local competitors have lower load times and more importantly lower ttfb's.

Is a CDN the right answer? I've read articles demonstrating that Clowd Flare decreased a websites rankings. Is there a better CDN to use, or a propper way to implement Clowd Flare?

We are relatively well listed for "Edmonton web design." - the city we work out of. As an effort to reach out new clients, we created about 15 new pages targeting other cites in Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan. Although we began to show up quite well in some of these regions, we have recently seen our rankings in Edmonton drop by a few spots. I'm wondering if setting up regional pages that have lots of keywords for that region can be detrimental to our overall rankings.Here is one example of a regional page:

We have been doing a lot of work on our SEO over the last few months and are thrilled to be in the top four four "edmonton website design" in our city. However, we are planning to launch a new website soon and are very concerned that this could negatively effect our rankings (as was the case with one of our competitors this week). What tips and techniques can you recommend in this case?

On paper, the SEO on our new site is much better than the last - the url structure, contact info and content is much more targeted to our desired search terms, however, I don't want to take any chances. Is there any way to be certain (as certain as possible) that we will not get bumped to page 2?

From what I've been seeing, it depends how your browser is set up. For instance, if you have geotargeting turned off on your phone, you will get much broader results, however, I have seen the same local results (just like Gordan) When searching from my desktop. So that still leaves the question: how can you perform better on a local search without the city's name? That is - from a computer where google has your location set to your specific city (Edmonton in my case). We will see what effect a new website for http:web3.ca will have.

Here’s an interesting one for you guys: We show up on page 1 for “Edmonton web design,” (our website is http:web3.ca), however when you search for just “web design” in our city, we don’t seem to show up at all. I know Google is now placing a higher percentage or local companies in a search. So my question is: how can we show up better for a local search that is just “web design”? Does this just come down to domain authority & content or are there other key local factors at play?

Hey guys! I was looking at adding the H1 tag lower on the page than the H2 tag because I want the top bit to be a call to action. Is this proper practice?

Hey guys. When targeting a specific keyword that mentions a city (eg. Dover Used Cars) would it be a good practice to include that city in the URL when creating additional pages (eg. placethatsellsusedcars.com/dover-used-fords)?
