Best process for expired webinars advertised as events 301, 404
If you can 301 redirect the events page to your recording of the webinar, that would be the ideal situation.

Error Code 804: HTTPS (SSL) Error Encountered
Hi there - Kristina from Moz's Help Team here. Unfortunately at this time our crawler isn't compatible with Server Name Indication (SNI), which appears to be in use on your site. In general, SNI is a totally acceptable security configuration, but our crawler simply isn't equipped to be able to handle these settings. http://screencast.com/t/G5wpkzmO If you are able to disable the SNI configuration on your site, then we should be able to crawl it normally. While it's something that we'd love to be able to accommodate for the future, we don't yet have the resources to be able to make those changes. I found this thread in our Community Q&A forum with lots of other users running into the same problem, so it's definitely something we're aware of and working to address: https://moz.com/community/q/804-https-ssl-error I apologize for the inconvenience, but I hope this helps to explain!

Tiered back links
Google has been fighting link spam and link schemes for a long time. They have an entire team dedicated to rooting it out and penalizing it. Lots of people have lost websites from doing exactly what you are talking about doing. The best approach is to build a great website. If you build a website that does not engage visitors well and promote it with links Google will identify the behavior of your visitors as inferior and fail to move your site up in the rankings. It is like lipstick on a pig. Google will recognize it.
