Andrew, I'm not a huge expert but I'll give you my 2c

When I analyse links in opensiteexplorer I tend to filter out the links with PA less than 20.

I've found that with links above 20 PA works for me. There's a huge amount of PA under 20 and you can tell they are usually pages with PR of 1 or 0.

Going to setup a blog for a 4 year old ecommerce website and was wondering if it would be a good idea to put a blog on the sub domain or just a folder like www.domain.com.au/blog

I'll be using the blog to

1. Link bait articles
2. Social bookmark traffic
3. Linking keywords to products on the ecommerce site.

I wanted to know if

1. The link juice would be greater if we cross link from sub-domain to main domain?
2. Any major dis-advantages in having it on a sub-domain vs folder?
3. Any other major differences?

Your right its a huge challenge but 301's for pages with external links seems a bit more realistic to do Thanks

So redirecting the juicest pages from topgift to the relevant pages on dadshop?

But I wonder if it would be more beneficial to just do a full 301 redirect
