Building a new page: What on-page SEO would you build in?
Hi all,
Building a new page for a fairly competitive keyword. Need to make sure the on-page SEO is pretty top notch, because link building (including internal links) will be difficult.
I've optimised the meta description, the alt tags and image names, and included the keyword in the Title Tags. Not a great deal I can do with regards to optimising for mobile or considering migrating to the AMP project because this is handled externally. What else would you suggest?
Cheers in advance,
Rhys

RE: Will a 301 alter URL structures?
Thanks, John!
Basically, before I started, two pages were created for a directory page. This is now splitting the traffic, but the page we'd like to re-direct has, for some reason, had a number of pages built under it. So, we need to 301 the page without damaging the URL structure of the sub-pages, but I wasn't sure if that was possible!
Hope that makes sense?
Thanks for your help!
Cheers,
Rhys

RE: Will a 301 alter URL structures?
Hi John,
Thank you for the very detailed response, that's exactly what I meant. So, the URL for the children of /page/ should stay exactly the same? /page/1/ and /page/2/ aren't controlled by me, but /page/ is, and is outdated so I'm looking to apply a 301 to a new page which we've developed for it.
Assuming I've understood your answer, this should be fine...
Thanks again for your response - very helpful!
Best wishes,
Rhys

Will a 301 alter URL structures?
Hi all,
I'd like to re-direct page A to page B. The problem is, under page A, I have a number of other pages. So, for example -
www.website.co.uk/A/fake/website
If I re-direct www.website.co.uk/A/ to www.website.co.uk/B/, would the sub-pages then become unusable as a URL? Or would they stay intact because I'm not changing the location of the pages, merely applying a re-direct to the folder that it's in.
Cheers,
Rhys

RE: Page options under title tag: Can we set these?
Oh, that's a shame!
Thanks, Andy.

Page options under title tag: Can we set these?
Hi all,
Under many title tags, you see a list of sub-pages that Google suggests. So, if you search for Amazon, for example, it'll show you 6 options:
Full Shop Directory - Try Prime
Books - CDs & Vinyl
Your account - Today's deals
Can you dictate these choices with markup?

Anyone got any experience using DBPedia for SEO?
Trying to build as much brand authority as possible and an SEO recommended using this tool. Does anyone have experience with this? Seems harder than Wikipedia and Wikidata to use and get involved with.

RE: One of my pages doesn't appear in Google's search
Hi Sean,
You're right! Although, on mine, it was on page 2. Seems very unusual that with all the cookies and filters on, I was invisible on rankings?
Anyway, thank you for your help!
Best wishes,

RE: One of my pages doesn't appear in Google's search
Hi Sean,
Thanks for getting back to me. I doesn't rank, at all, for 'Biochemistry degree', which I don't understand. Granted, there is some big competition, but not showing at all? Seems a bit strange.
Thanks for your advice.
Cheers,
Rhys

RE: One of my pages doesn't appear in Google's search
Hi Sean,
Thanks for your reply.
Content hasn't been duplicated, and, from what I can see from the html, there is no 'noindex' tag on the page. However, I'm not sure about the robots.txt file.
URL is attached - http://www.swansea.ac.uk/undergraduate/courses/medicine/bscbiochemistry/
Appreciate your help!

One of my pages doesn't appear in Google's search
Our page has been indexed (I just checked) but literally doesn't exist in the first 300 results despite having a respectable DA & PA.
Is there something I can do? There's no reason why this specific page doesn't rank, as far as I can see. It's not a new page.
Cheers,
Rhys

RE: Social profile links - markup not working
Hi both,
This is the markup I've used -
I've put it into a markup checker, and it seems to be fine. Could it be a case that I simply need to highlight it to Google as kindly suggested by Everett?

RE: Social profile links - markup not working
Thank you all; very helpful. Not sure whether it is what Dr Meyers said, and we merely lack authority etc (this has mostly been done in the past 3 months), because I've also implemented a markup for our courses.
In answer to Gianluca, yes that is the correct business. Have I implemented the wrong markup? Have I used person not organisation? Thank you for the links, very thoughtful!
Thanks Everett, I have tried the feedback but I find they don't pay much attention to it - similarly, I've tried emailing google a number of times and don't get a response. Less than helpful!
thank you all for your kind response!

Social profile links - markup not working
Hi all,
Weeks ago, I implemented the advised social profile markup (below, but with my own details, of course) but I continue to have no success with getting my social profiles onto my knowledge panel. Any ideas?

Creating a new website, but I'd like to control it under a different domain.
I'd like to control it under the domain of another website with a higher DA. Can I create the new website (website A) and do an immediate re-direct to another website (website B)? Or would I be better at putting it as a subdomain? Such as www.websitea.websiteb.com?
Cheers all,
Rhys

RE: 301 from one domain to another. Possible?
Hi Patrick,
Of course - So, some of the academics within our institution are setting up a project involving numerous external partners and stakeholders. The business won't have a fixed location (that I'm aware of), and was going to be a science/research based website. This project was going to have its own URL and website but they would've liked it controlled within our domain so that:
A) It's easier to update
B) It'll benefit from a higher DA
The H1 of the page would obviously be called what the URL would've been, but I'm not sure whether this would be viewed as underhand by search engines - although, from my research, I haven't seen anything to suggest such a thing.
What do you think?
Cheers,
Rhys

RE: 301 from one domain to another. Possible?
Hi Patrick,
Thanks so much for your response. Basically, we're setting up a miniature business which will have its own domain, but we'd like to manage it under the umbrella of our domain. So, anyone visiting the site (once the site is set up) would immediately be re-directed to our main domain. Does that sound practical? Or is it manipulation because we're setting up a new page to immediately re-locate?
Cheers,
Rhys
