How do hreflang attributes affect ranking?
There are a number of points to mention here: Firstly. hreflang is not a ranking signal, and therefore it will not provide a ranking boost. Secondly, Google will not auto-translate the pages because hreflang was implemented. You'll need to do the translation yourself. Thirdly, you don't have to translate all pages of your website to Duth, only the ones that would make sense to translate. For example, there could be blog posts that would resonate with an English speaking audience, but not a Dutch one, so there wouldn't be a need to translate these posts. The opposite could be true too. What hreflang does, is that it helps search engines understand which pages are meant to rank for which languages and in which countries. The actual implementation can get tricky if you have multiple languages and several countries and I would recommend looking into a few tutorials/documentation on this, including: Moz's hreflang guide: https://moz.com/learn/seo/hreflang-tag Yoast's hreflanf guide: https://yoast.com/hreflang-ultimate-guide/ Google's documentation on hreflang: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en Hope that helps!

Unexpected ranking
I don't think there is a definitive answer there, but my gut would be that those links out to relevant content are helping the credibility/quality consideration of your page and that they may be helping time on site and user engagement data as I mentioned before. What you might want to do is test adding that similar feature to a couple of other pages and monitor ranking impact! Best, Ricky

Does the content in Joomla modules get indexed
Hi Thomas, Thanks for the response. Would you know how search engines regard modules which may be the same for 3 or 4 articles. How would it know how the keywords in a module should be associated with any particular article, in terms of ranking a page? Thanks Ian

Will changing a URL negatively affect ranking?
i did this without a proper 301 redirect... it affected me badly.. pages where i rank the posts really dropped.. you'll need to do a proper 301 redirect... rankings would drop a little bit . but it would boost up late on . .

Duplicate content on the same site
This depends what your goal is, are you looking to rank both pages in search? If so, you will need to create unique content on both pages. However, if your goal is to promote one of the pages via other means, you can put a rel canonical tag in the header of the site, which will give content attribution back to the original page and will solve your duplicate content issues. Here's more information on the rel canonical tag: https://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization As another option, you could simply noindex one of the pages. Hope that helps.

New website showing old domain titles in search
I saw a new page cached on Google, so it seems like Google was able to find some, if not all, new content, sitemap or not. What concerned me though, was the cached page had old meta data in it. That's what made me think that Google might have been able to find a sitemap on the website server, but the sitemap could have been pointing to the test (versus production) domain. I've seen that happen before. So it's good you submitted a new sitemap via Search Console. I'd also take a look a see if there might be conflicting sitemaps on the server.

Finding list of keywords and frequency
Good Morning Ian Oh i see ! in that case then yes Screaming Frog would be a good way of seeing what pages have been optimised for what target keywords. Quake probably too although i havnt used that myself for a long while. Also for a quick browser based view of what a page is optimised for is SEOXRay if its still going. As well as Jasons advice to look at OpenExplorer backlink anchor text profiles, although for new sites are unlikely have developed much of a backlink profile and OE wont have indexed all backlinks/pages so i would still concentrate on looking at the on-page optimisation. All Best Dan
