No Index No follow instead of Rel canoncical on product pages
Hey Dieter, I might have considered a more dynamic/interactive solution for showing multiple variations/colors of the same product (gallery/Javascript, etc.). My concern would be as follows: Each time you ask a user to refresh or visit a new page in a purchase funnel, you're increasing the likelihood of a lost opportunity. If a single-page option is not possible, you are right to look at a noindex or canonical solution. Personally, I'd recommend the canonical solution. This way, any existing link juice (if any) is being attributed from extraneous to the primary product URL. Best of luck to you. -Brian

My site lost a lot of traffic in the lastest update - what to do?
Most likely, one of two things happened. A) Either your site got hit by the algorithm and lost rankings..... B) Or..... your competitor was favored by the algorithm, moved up, and you lost rankings. There are other possibilities, unrelated to the Google update, but checking if one of these, and which one of these, hit you is important to understand your next step. If you have a position tracking project running on SEMrush you can add competitors to the project and see who moved up and when. Since Google has not disclosed what this update was based upon, it is hard to know what can be done. It might be based upon how links are valued, how content is valued, user behavior, or something else, or a big mix of things.

Image Sitemap for non indexed Products
Not entirely sure what you mean, but from what I understand, you're asking if you have Image A on Product page A (this product page is already indexed) Image B on Product page B (this product page is not indexed) If so, then sure you can put Image B in your sitemap. I would be hesitant doing it if you do not want your Product page B to be indexed, though... Hope this helps

Handling of product variations and colours in ecommerce
Whenever you have products that are similar (but only different in color variations or size variations), you should use the canonical tag to specify this. Keep these URLs indexed, but generally speaking the canonical tag is there to help in these situations. There are literally thousands (or hundreds of thousands?) of sites using the canonical tag successfully.

Recovery from manual penalty, several sites sell same products
Just because you had your manual penalty lifted, doesn't mean the algo penalty (mainly penguin) was lifted as well. Be sure to check up on your anchor distribution to make sure it isn't over optimized. That being said, we had a site in a similar scenario and ended up switching to another domain after a lack of results for a while. Depending on the extent of the negative SEO, it might be the easiest solution.
