You can also specify no follow in the meta data, but you have to be careful with it.

RE: SEO on dynamic website
Be very careful with dynamic content. It is okay up to a point but it does have a number of SEO implications, although I think it's unlikely you would get a penalty.
One complication is, when a search engine crawls asset parameter and it delivers the specified page that will then be cashed by the search engine and delivered through the search results. The complication comes if a user comes to the side but has a different parameter set, they won't be able to see the content they came to get! That is a big problem, your bounce rate will be high which eventually could knock you out the rankings entirely.
I would take the professional approach...
Create static pages for all of your important content, if you want you could still include a little bit of dynamic content providing it doesn't change the page too much.
I would completely avoid the no index option, you have nothing to gain as far as I can see and it could cause a lot of damage.

RE: DO outbound links to manufacture specs, pdfs help or hurt SEO?
Assuming it's useful and relevant Google will like that and so will your users

Page dropped after backlink
This is a bit of a odd one...
I put two new pages on to my website. And built one backlink to each page (each from separate domains).
The pages and backlinks have indexed quite quickly.
The odd thing is that one of my pages has dropped significantly in ranking but the other has boosted significantly in ranking!
The 1st page has come to page 1 of google, the other pages dropped to page 3 of google.
Prior to building the links the ranks was stable.
Any ideas?

Penalty for duplicate content on the same website?
Is it possible to get a penalty for duplicate content on the same website?
I have a old custom-built site with a large number of filters that are pre-generated for speed. Basically the only difference is the meta title and H1 tag, with a few text differences here and there.
Obviously I could no-follow all the filter links but it would take an enormous amount of work.
The site is performing well in the search.
I'm trying to decide whether if there is a risk of a penalty, if not I'm loath to do anything in case it causes other issues.

Footer no follow links
Just interested to know when putting links at the foot of the site some people use no-follow tags. I'm thinking about internal pages and social networks.
Is this still necessary or is it an old-fashioned idea?

RE: HTTPS during or after redesign
Definitely don't do them at the same time (Google themselves advise that). From personal experience I would recommend doing any major changes/restructure first, waiting a bit, then implementing HTTPS

RE: How will it affect my site SEO, if I get backlink from a hign spam score percentage site like 70 % .
Have a look at how Moz now calculates the spam score, it is done based on correlation with characteristics of other band websites.
That is to say just because it's a high spam score doesn't mean to say it's going to do you damage.
However I always steer completely clear of any indication of spam.
I would consider 20% plenty high enough, at 40% I would completely avoid it and put my effort elsewhere.

RE: Descriptive domain vs business name domain
Sounds like something left behind in your meta tags somewhere or possibly page headings (H1, H2 etc).
Out of preference I would utilise a shorter domain name.
Domain name will have a small impact, but it is very small, hardly detectable.
I would look at it from a branding perspective, JP Shots is much more brand friendly.

RE: Google: What factors contribute to rank a landing page in a specific country?
Not a complete list but here's a few that I know of...
Server location
Google location tag / search console location settings
TLD (.uk .us)

RE: Internal Links & Possible Duplicate Content
If you have two pages or more that are very similar, it's very unlikely they will all rank.
You probably have a couple of options -
- Merge all similar pages together to create long form informative content
- Remove similar content completely
Alternatively you could consider an more of a guided structure, so essentially, you would thin down some of the pages to remove content that was already covered and enhance areas that hadn't been covered properly. The layout could be more like an online course or interactive e-book.

RE: Best way to get love from expired domain
This is a very old tactic, very little if any benefit as far as Google authority concerned.
You should remember that PA and DA etc are brand names and have nothing to do with Google themselves and they are not used in any way in the ranking algorithm.
To avoid future issues and to minimise the effect of blackhat SEO like this Google will normally 'reset' the domain when it expires. So any authority it did have it is very much minimised if not completely obliterated.

RE: Optimizing A Homepage URL That Is Only Accessible To Logged In Users
If it was me I would position the login block at the top of every page, rather than having a specific login page. That also means you can personalise with the users name.
Then 301 your old login page back to the homepage that should transfer almost all of the authority from any links.

Pinging Links
Interested to know if anybody still uses the strategy of pinging links to make sure they get indexed, there are a number of sites out there which offer it. Is it considered dangerous/spamy?

Is anyone seeing excessive ranking fluctuations?
Has anyone noticed an unusual shift in ranking fluctuations starting around 20 hours ago?
I have noticed some fairly major positive shifts on two different websites, interested if anyone else has seen the same thing.

RE: Should you use www?
Going by the book, technically a short domain will give you a slight benefit, but I wouldn't consider it's anything worth bothering with.
Not using www will make it slightly quicker to type and easier to remember, However when advertising your domain name off-line it is more explanatory to have a www. prefix (Without having to type website or HTTP(s):// every time).
I would say there is very little SEO benefit, I would assess it from a user angle.

RE: Duplicate content site not penalized
This is a common scenario, I would take issues found by crawling tools with a pinch of salt - A lot of them flag up errors that aren't actually a major problem.
Search engines aren't crawling the web to find problems with your site, they are crawling the web to find the most relevant content and deliver it to the person that requests it.
As far as I'm aware there is no such thing as a duplicate content penalty. But there is an exception, if you breach copyright you could be in legal trouble. Additionally Google does have a pirated content removal process, if you find a copied piece of content that breaches copyright you can submit it and it will most likely be removed completely from the search engine.
If you are talking about duplicate content on your own site, it isn't a major problem and Google will still pick up the pages and try and deliver the best content to the search except you are doing yourself a disservice. If you have duplicate content on your own site put a bit of effort into crafting content and targeting different keywords.

RE: Hostage Taking by My Wordpress Developer
It can be very difficult to get a new developer to take on a site that has been designed by someone else even if it is on a standard platform like WordPress.
The core files should never be edited and you should only accept updates from the platform provider e.g. WordPress.
Always make sure the domain is in your own name and you have access to the hosting. And make sure you have your own off-line backup of the entire site including content and databases.

RE: Htaccess - Redirecting TAG or Category pages
If I've understood you correctly, all you need to do is to add a tag with the relevant content same as the old one.

How is DA and PA calculated?
I'm interested to know how DA and PA is calculated.
Is it calculated exponentially? i.e. increases out of proportion compare to the power and quantity.
So assuming all things are equal... One link of DA40 would be much more powerful than two DA20's?
