Do you mind if I ask who designed the site for you. Did you do it in house or through an agency? So hard to find a good designer these days.

Video Hosting Question - host on website via wistia type solution or upload to youtube and embed?
I have a client that owns a Video production company. They have a lot of video examples of all their different types of services i.e. commercial production, TV broadcast production, business videos, training videos, etc.
Where should I host their portfolio of videos, should I:
A: Use a paid video hosting solution like wistia
B. Upload to youtube or vimeo and embed to my own site
The only videos titles with keywords that I could see bringing any type of conversions for their business would be their demo reels, for example: "Atlanta Corporate Video Production Demo Reel." The other videos would be the name of the video "Court TV: Cop On Trial For Killing Wife" and therefore wouldn't bring the kind of visitors that are searching for a video production service. This is why I'm curious about what the best hosting option is.
Any advice would be a great help.

RE: How to create unique content for businesses with multiple locations?
Any idea on what to suggest they write about? All of the franchisees are not my clients, but nevertheless I imagine the duplicate content is pulling my clients rankings down. Also if I could get this project that means more money:)

How to create unique content for businesses with multiple locations?
I have a client that owns one franchise location of a franchise company with multiple locations. They have one large site with each location owning it's own page on the site, which I feel is the best route. The problem is that each location page has basically duplicate content on each page resulting in like 80 pages of duplicate content.
I'm looking for advice on how to create unique content for each location page? What types of information can we write about to make each page unique, because you can only twist sentences and content around so much before it just all sounds cookie cutter and therefore offering little value.

How to handle footer links after Penguin?
With the launch of Google's Penguin I know that footer links could possibly hurt rankings. Also too many links on a page are also bad. I have a client http://www.m-scribe.com That has footer links creating well over 100 links on many of their pages. How should I handle these footer links? Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Is this Penguin or Manual Penalty?
I have a client that's traffic dropped off on April 10th. They did get a message in GWT on March 21st. The April 10th date leads me to believe that it is a manual penalty and couldn't be penguin since penguin was released on April 24th.
I guess either way backlinks need to be cleaned up though.

How Benefitial is Guest Blogging?
So my question is, if you are getting guest posts on sites with high Domain Authority, is it really that benefitial since the actual post will have a low page authority? Is just getting a post on a high domain authority that good?

RE: Does anyone have any suggestions on removing spammy links?
What about with your guest posting? Are you using anchor text or branded terms?
How do you target other keyword phrases that a page is not totally targeted for when Google also doesn't want a bunch of pages on a site that target slightly different but simliar keyword phrases? Is this a matter of creating great content i.e. blog posts, linkbait, etc. that target those different pages?

RE: Does anyone have any suggestions on removing spammy links?
What if the anchor text has a lot of variation but they are still exact keyword phrase, just a lot of different ones?

Is there a way to check if your site has a Google penalty?
Is there a way to find out if your site has an over optimization penalty?

RE: Does anyone have any suggestions on removing spammy links?
Hey Ryan,
Have you read this post by Dr. Pete http://www.seomoz.org/blog/penguins-pandas-and-panic-at-the-zoo#jtc180593? Wanted to get your thoughts on his suggestion not to submit for reconsideration.

RE: Does anyone have any suggestions on removing spammy links?
My plan is to put all the root domains into http://netpeak.net/software/netpeak-checker/ check for PR main, status code, index, PA and DA. Then put them into Buzzstream which should go out and find the info for you. Then grab all the links from each spammy domain and provide them in the email to the webmaster to make them easier to remove. Hopefully this will make it a little more efficient.

RE: Does anyone have any suggestions on removing spammy links?
Thanks Ryan you've given me a lot to work with. Hell if I get good at this I might just create a whole new service for my agency lol.
Oh one more question and then I'll leave you alone. What about sites that haven't been hit yet, but have used similar tactics? Would you start this process for them? Or cross fingers?

RE: Does anyone have any suggestions on removing spammy links?
Yeah this all came right around "Penguin" so I'm fairly certain it's related. They do have a lot of exact anchor text too, but for a wide variety of terms. They were also using blog networks, and have spammy links, so it's really hard to pinpoint which of these or if all of them are the problem.
At any rate should this be my process?
- Resubmit to Google
- See if they answer back and with what
- If no answer proceed with removal
- Get links from webmaster tools
- Parse out Root linking Domains
- Run through Netpeak Checker (awesome tool if you haven't used it) finds PR, SEOmoz stats, Google index, status code, etc.
- First remove all PR 0 and live pages
- Resubmit to Google
- Second remove all deindexed PR 0
- Resubmit to Google
- Get other link source data (Majestic SEO, Opensite Explorer)
- Remove PR 0 links
- Resubmit to Google
Hopefully that will do it. What do you think of this process? Oh and Thank you very much for your help You're awesome.

RE: Does anyone have any suggestions on removing spammy links?
Got another question for you. Do we even bother trying to get links from deindexed sites taken off or do you think Google takes those into account with the penalty?
-
RE: Does anyone have any suggestions on removing spammy links?
So Ryan in your opinion if they saw some major drops in rankings you would think it would be a safe bet that the site was penalized?
They were also using Blog networks that got shut down, so those links have obviously been deindexed and therefore have no value which would drop the rankings anyway. That's the tricky part is the drop in rankings because the blog networks are gone or they are penalized.

RE: What to do about "Penguin" penalties?
By 301'd their way out what do you mean? Do you have a link to the post I can read?

RE: Low Quality Highly Relevant backlinks, should we get them?
What about low authority, but highly relevant directories? What are your thoughts on these types of links?

RE: Does anyone have any suggestions on removing spammy links?
Wow great info Ryan. Is there a way to know for sure that a website has been penalized by Google and if this process needs to be started?
