From a programmer's perspective I would assume a basic algorithm exists where your search is partially matched, then shown in reverse order (most recent first).

If they're clever they might match other factors from your profile against the job requirements - e.g. if you have a required qualification, or previous experience.

As it's been a while since I applied for a job and the last job site we built was over a year ago, I can't speak for 'most job boards'. If I were you I'd give a few a spin and see if you can work out what's going on when you search. Try some non-logged in searches, then set up a profile and try again, see if the results are different.

My initial opinion would be to do all your 'standard' SEO activities as far as you have the ability to

1. Get your keyword choices right
2. Get the on-page optimisation right based on (1)
3. Link Build/Social Media Share

And couple all of the above with some competing page analysis and see why those pages are ranking for the relevant keywords.

As it's a third party website you may be limited in terms of implementing (2) but do what you can and use SEOmoz's on-page tool to guide you on this. So in essence, not much different from any other campaign.

The simplest way would be to generate your ROBOTS meta tag based on the parameter. I code in PHP so this is my example, but it will depend on your platform

Say your URL is domain.com?lang=es or ?lang=po or ?lang=de

if($lang=="de"){ echo ''; }

else{ echo ''; }

I left 'follow' in the German line because you may already have pages in the index, so this means Google DE has free reign over all your site, but any pages it finds should not be indexed.

If the site's not live yet, then you can change the 'follow' in the DE line to 'nofollow'.

May as well kick-start the responses! I'm a Schema fan, it's easy to implement and gives Google and other search engines the information they need.

I don't think you need to be too concerned about one over the other so long as your microformat is, in an of itself, correctly implemented. An advantage of using Schema is that you can use Google Webmaster Tool to check your rich snippet so you have confidence to know it's done right.

But I'm just one opinion

Not yet. I think there's a feature request to add more, but that's not currently the case. In the interim I suggest you diarise when you want to update your competitors and do a manual spreadsheet and load in data from http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/ as you can get a 'snapshot' of competitor data at any time that way instead. Then make regular updates to your spreadsheets.

I just plugged in your URL into OpenSiteExplorer and it seems it's not in the SEOmoz index yet. Info from OSE says:

Mozscape crawls the web constantly, but we update the index only once every 30-40 days. Thus, pages and links created since the last index update won't be available until we've seen them. A typical timeline for getting a page/site included in Mozscape is 45-60 days.

You could probably speed up inclusion by creating some good solid backlinks to your site, but otherwise it's just a patience game - it will eventually get in, but shouldn't stop you from starting off your campaign's activities.

I think things like LinkedIn Endorsements have an effect that is outside the sphere of SEO in one sense. What you are achieving is social proof - other people saying you are good at something in particular.

That being said, your LinkedIn page has a static URL and can be optimised for keywords and if your endorsements include the things you want to be found for then that can help you rank personally.

E.g. if you put in 'Martin Oxby SEO' then you get my blog first and second is my LinkedIn page. Not that high volumes of people put that in, it's just for illustration!

So it's more about your personal branding and identity on the internet. So go get those endorsements, but see it as having other types of value - and optimise your Linked In page so that it definitely includes the things you want to personally be associated with.

How long has your site been live? It could be a delay in pages/site going live and appearing in SEOmoz index. What's the URL? That might help work out the issue.

It all depends on what you're trying to achieve. If you want people to see a 404 page then serve them a useful 404 page.

If you're trying to redirect link value then you should 301 to the most relevant page to what that URL used to have on it.

For me a 404 error is a great opportunity to catch the visitor and give them something of use.

If you redirect 404s you'll also reduce your site's general server errors, which can only be a positive thing, right?

Oh well if it's actual content - i.e. they've written something about your business on the page and it's not just a 'footer link' then I can't see any problem at all in that being the link.

I think you may find you get more traffic if the link is in the text or a 'View their website' style link after the content - as it's more obvious to users that it's a link off to somewhere. From an SEO perspective I can't see an issue with this, but in terms of traffic potential possibly a better place would be in or just after the content about your business.

We changed our domain a few months back so here's a few observations

• Where possible ensure effective 301's are in place
• If a page URL does not have to change don't change it. It is possible to create a better website structure/navigation without altering URLs.
• Ensure a full sitemap is submitted when you roll out the new design
• Be patient, you may see a drop for a short while, as the 301's take time to attribute value from old->new URLs.
• Get any sites linking to old URLs (the non-home ones) updated to the new URLs when you know them.
• In a few months, if you have any old URLs in Google (do a site:www.website.com) search then use the URL removal tool in GWT to get rid of old URLs.
• You may want to consider redirecting any pages that don't exist at all any more, to your home page or the next nearest match in terms of content.

The broken link just seems to be a non-functioning mailto: link rather than a page link, as such. I could be wrong but that's my impression.

I would be tempted to put a 301 redirect onto your site redirecting that link to your contact page thus

• capturing the user and giving them helpful information and
• pointing the link to a fairly 'safe' location

That gives you time to maybe do a bit of digging into TopicWorld.net, see if it's real community or spammy forum, so you can then decide whether a disavow is needed. If you decide you don't want the link then I suggest you try to get it removed manually first as disavow can take weeks/months to come into effect.

I don't see how the H2 tag itself would be a problem. A bit strange from the linking site's on-page optimisation though.

What concerns me is that it's in the footer - unless it's not site-wide that could be an issue. And it may not result in traffic for you due to it not being seen.

The branded anchor text is good - as that's non-spammy.

So just check

• Not a site-wide link
• That they could change it from a H2 as that's not great for their SEO. (Add value to them!)

Right okay. Well then I'd suggest you move each of the blocks from the home page to a new page.

Then look at the calls to action on the new pages to encourage click-throughs to products. Or look at adding links/photos to products that relate to the topic being discussed. Anything you write on the site should be a standalone piece of content, but would presumably, in one form or other, relate to what's being sold on the site. That being the case, the traffic coming to the articles will be people interested in the type of things being sold, so you should be able to encourage the click-through to products.

Yes, you will get some non-converting traffic, but by putting each one on a separate page and working on the SEO of each, you can broaden your scope for MORE traffic, which you can then encourage to buy.

The home page is not the place for everything and will be restricting what you can achieve in traffic terms.

How long has Google Webmaster Tools been activated for the site that's not working?

Can you create a 'lower level' pages for each 'article' (and then manually edit the home page for 'latest' bits) or is the system quite restrictive - e.g. unless you add a new product or brand, you can't add a page?

Google+ Pages can be 'publishers' but not 'authors' as far as I can see. This makes sense because people, not organisations actually write content.
