Thanks Paul, I hadnt' noticed it.
I'll amend it now and give it another try.
Thanks Paul and thanks Dan.
Colin
Hi Dan,
Thanks very much for that. I've added that to the .htaccess file but whenj I've checked both pages still show.
I checked again via http://www.webconfs.com/redirect-check.php and then I get this error message:
Either http://www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/index.cfm is NOT REDIRECTING to any URL or the redirect is NOT SEARCH ENGINE FRIENDLY
I wonder if I've missed something?
Colin
My website has two versions of the homepage:
http://www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/http://www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/index.cfmI wondered if I could set up a 301 redirect in the .htaccess file so that only the http://www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk page was returned as the homepage?Colin
Thanks to Sanket Patel in an earlier query I've now got non-www pages showing as www. pages on my www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk website.
But the Blog which is part of the site posts and pages still show as non-www pages.
For example:
http://nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/blog/makadi-palace-hotel-makadi-bay/
I wonder if anyone has come upon the same problem and what the solution might be?
Thanks,
Colin
Thanks to Sanket I've successfully managed to have the site show only www. and not the non-www. versions.
However I have a blog on the site and that still shows the non-www. version, for example:
http://nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/blog/makadi-palace-hotel-makadi-bay/
I wonder if anyone has come upon the same problem and what the solution might be?
Thanks,
Colin
Thank you very much Sanket.
That's so kind of you.
Colin
I currently have both WWW and non-WWW versions of my site live on the web, and I want to be able to have all non-WWW to point to WWW.http://nile-cruises-4u.co.ukhttp://www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk
I want just the WWW version of the site live.I'm wondering the best way to resolve this?Is it normally dealt with in the .htaccess file and I think, looks like this but I'm not sure:
<code>RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ [http://www.](http://www.)%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]</code>
Thanks Andy.
I think the Panda and Penguin updates might have affected us and worry about the website name containing the main search term, although there is little I can do about that.
I think that my SEO efforts are being maintained but I will take your advice and look more closely at what I'm doing.
Thanks for your help.
Coli
I read a very interesting answer by Andy Solo to a previous question in which he replied:
"Use your blog to create some Tips & How-To's, optimize those blog entries for the long tail keywords and soon enough your blog will be the gateway into your website.
Learn how to target longl-tail keyword searches and how to analyze keyword competition to find the right niche blog posts to create".
With my own company site, www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk which has a long-standing blog attached, www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/blog I always felt that the blog content greatly aided our top positions in Google.co.uk.
However, over the last 12 months we have slipped right down page one and I wondered if the blog is still helping our site or if the emphasis/value has switched and Google is looking at a lot of other factors where we score badly?
Colin
Thanks Charlie,
I think it would be good for us to chat.
As our clients are spread throughout the UK and world I dont' think location is a problem.
Should I call you via your website?
Colin
Thanks SEO5.
I'm looking through the recommendations now.
Colin
Our website www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk has slowly slipped down the page one ranking of Google.co.uk for our main search terms after several years at number one.
I've looked closely at our site as much as a "non-techie" can do but wondered if anyone could recommend a good SEO company/individual that could take an overview and then help us try and climb back up the page one rankings.
As a small business I dont' have tons of money to spend but I realise the importance of good SEO and I am prepared to spend as much as is required within reason.
I thought members of SEOMoz were more likely to be able to recommend good SEO companies rather than me trawl around the web trying to find a company or individual that might suit our needs.
I hope this is a suitable question for this forum but apologise in advance if it isn't.
Colin
For about 3 years our website was number one in Google.co.uk for our trades main keyphrase which resulted in excellent sales.
About 12 months ago that position started to slide downwards and for that keyphrase we are now number 10. We are still at number's 1,2 and 3 for several other keyphrases but ones that result in fewer daily Google searches and resultant sales.
I have always added unique content to the site but admit that my blog posts became less than daily over the past 12 months. However I am adding posts as often as I can now, of good length and of unique content.
As well as tweaking all our online seo factors I'm trying to add good backlinks as often as possible.
I wonder if anyone has been in a similar position and what they did to try and regain their previous position?
Colin
Hi Peter,
I've tested the robot.txt file in Webmaster Tools and it now seems to be working as it should and it seems Google is seeing the same file as I have on the server.
I'm afraid this side of things isn't' my area of expertise so it's been a bit of a minefield.
I've taken a subscription with sucuri.net and taken various other steps that hopefully will hel;p with security. But who knows?
Thanks,
Colin
Blog isn't' showing now and my hosts say that the index.php file is missing from the directory but I can see it.
Strange.
Have contacted them again to see what the problem can be.
Bit of a wasted Saturday!

Thanks Keith. Just contacting out hosts.
Nightmare!
Mind you the whole blog is now showing an error message and cant' be viewed so looks like an afternoon of trial and error!
