Redirection to mobile site
Hi Marty, I can say that we have done that. There is a single line of code that you can add to the main website. It detects the browser and opens the mobile version of the website if accessed via mobile.Unfortunately, it does it for iPads too as it treats them as mobile devices; apart from that there are no negative implications. I have no idea about #4 but it makes marketing sense to mention your mobile website, if any on your home page.

Exact match subdomains
I agree. But at the same time because its still on the main domain which has authority i have a hard time believing the engines don't trust the url more as a sub-domain vs a bran new url.

Directory Categories
The name of the category itself is largely irrelevant as long as it's tangentially related to your site. The description of your site and anchortext in the listing is where most of the relevancy comes from anyway. The most important thing to consider is how many people are in that category, and where exactly your listing will show up. A lot of people get caught up with the PR and mozRank of a directory's category only to realize after they shelled out some cash that their listing will forever reside on a subpage that has no PageRank and is likely not in the primary Google Index. But no need to repeat the information I just posted -> here are more tips in a related Q&A thread.

Ranking via partial match
I can't find the perfect quote right now, but I have often read articles were Eric Enge, Matt Cutts and others with a high degree of credibility talked about how unnatural anchor text patterns will likely lead to a (algorithmic) penalty. Some example articles: http://www.stonetemple.com/articles/anchor-text.shtml http://www.stonetemple.com/articles/interview-matt-cutts-061608.shtml The premise is anchor links are supposed to be independent, and such links will vary naturally if not unduly influenced. When the identical anchor text is used past a certain threshhold, it is clear some extra influence is at work and the links will not have the same value. That influence can include such factors as a widget with specific code, links submitted to 100s of directories, republished articles, standard software created by links, etc. A natural, independent link has more value then any form of influenced link, and Google does what it can to differentiate them and weight them accordingly.

301 & backlinks
I think this would be the same as adding the same backlink twice to a site. If so, Google will only give credit for one. I just noticed I am answering a question from 2011, but got here trying to answer a question of my own about backlinks. Hopefully, Marty has already figured this out, but I am fairly certain I am correct about the link juice passed. It only counts once.

EzineArticles WordPress Plugin
Many thanks Heather, great answer. I agree, better to avoid automated posting to Ezinearticles and instead submit select articles manually to a few chosen article directories.
