Meta tag description Usage
I think most is covered in the above answers, but will add my thoughts on this element. Yes, you should have "unique" and good content in your meta-descriptions, as well as in any content element. There is no short cuts for good SEO. Meta-description is not a ranking element by it self, but its a big factor for SERP CTR and driving business. With that said, I don't think there is no need not to be as smart as possible and here is when CMS with auto-generation rules comes into play. I recommend any site to use preamble as a content element as it will be a short descriptive keyword rich text that is selling and should get the user to quickly understand the content on the page and get them to move down the page or into a conversion funnel. For me this is exactly the same as the function of a meta-description. We allways set up our clients CMS's to autogenerate meta-description from the preamble text, as this saves times. But, we also creates an override rule with a field for meta-description that we code that if meta-description contains content, then it overrides the preamble (as a meta-description). That way you get the best of both worlds. The possibility to write good "on-page" SEO as well as saving time.

Domain name Length
It's very important if you plan on doing any advertising at all, whether it's Google Adwords, Facebook or anywhere else. Aside from the fact that shorter domain names are just easier for your visitors to remember, many advertising networks have character limitations on display URLs. For example, Google Adwords has a 35 character limit for display URLs. You can have a longer URL, but it will be truncated in the ad, which isn't really what any advertiser wants to happen. I'd say 35 characters or less for your domain name, counting characters like this: MyDomainName.com Don't count the "http://www." part in your character count because you can omit that from a display URL in an ad and people will still understand it and be able to navigate to your site.

One Web site many Domains
Hi Chandana Rand covered microsites in 2009 on a whiteboard Friday. You can review his original thoughts here He also followed up on this topic here I had the same basic question earlier this year when I was trying to decide what to do with the 100+ domains my company owns. A couple experts replied to my question and advised me to only work on 1 or 2 domains as far as SEO. The thought was dividing time up on multiple domains would show less results then spending all the time on 1 or 2 domains. You may view my question here. Hope that helps

Keyword density for a website
I don't worry one bit about keyword density. It used to be a factor years ago, but now what I do is write for readers. I make sure that my keyword is in my title and also is in my copy somewhere. It could be 4 times...it could be once...it could be 10 times...there is no formula.

I just want to add that the answer does depend a lot on the content. If it's just an issue of duplicate title and META tags, then any uniqueness does help. Generally, though, use the actual product names and information - you can easily generate the tags from the database for most data-driven sites. If it's an issue of duplicate URLs for the same products, that's a different matter. In other words, make sure that your navigation (searches, sorts, paginations) isn't spinning out copies of your product pages. If it is, then you'll want to control those duplicates and canonicalize or de-index them. If you have 1000s of duplicate product titles and only 200 products, then you're creating duplicate product pages. If you have 1000 duplicate titles and 1000 product pages, then you just need to create unique tags.

Preferred domain can't set in Web master Tool
Webmaster Tools considers the www and non-www versions of your website to be 2 different sites, Chandana. What that error is telling you is that you can't use your xxxxxtours.com account to set the www version until you've proven you're also verified for the Webmaster Tools account for the www version. So in your Webmaster Tools main page, click the big red button for Create Site and then create a new site for www.xxxtours.com as well. Once you've verified it, you'll be able to set www as the preferred domain in both sites' configuration. I know it seems strange, but GWT considers each of those to be two totally separate sites, so you have to prove you have authority for both before you can use one to point to the other. Paul

Old page redirection method ?
In general the technical correct way to tell Search Engines a page no longer exist is to give a 410 response code. REF: http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address. This status code is commonly used when the server does not wish to reveal exactly why the request has been refused, or when no other response is applicable. If the page has no seo value, or user value then a 410 would be preferred. As Robert pointed out, if the old url has a valid new url then you should 301 redirect it to the new location. If the page does have SEO value (like good backlinks, high serp ratings for strong keywords), but no new matching page, you should do one of two things: 1. It's at http://www.seomoz.org/help/crawl-diagnostics Some of the answer also depends on the cause of the error. Is the duplicate page title because you have five sort options so you're getting five URLs for essentially the same page and they all have the same title? That's one type of fix, versus you just have your company name as the title tag for all of your pages, which is a different type of fix. Using a rel canonical for CMS
If it's just a booking page and you have separate pages for the properties themselves, I think you could probably canonical the "book-hotel.php" page. I'm hestitant to say for sure, without seeing the actual site, but it sounds like the booking pages are low-value, from a search perspective (i.e. they're important for users, but don't add value to search visitors). For the property pages, unique titles are important. Ideally, you can generate them from your database, but how to do that is completely dependent on your platform/CMS.

Sure. It is fairly simple Chandana. Much like marketing yourself offline, you need to establish valuable contacts and relationships within your professional industry. The same goes for the web. Search engines derive authority from links, citations, likes, tweets and any measurable metric they can tally. However, links are still the most important. Showing Google your companies digital footprint (or web presence) is vast, robust and mentioned on sites they trust will actually make a site with GOOD on-site SEO very powerful. Without that, you'll only see a handful of your pages indexed and served in positions of prominence. If link building truly is a priority, I would look up Garrett French and read his articles, look at his tools and the Ontolo link building book.

How to change a site without loosing ranking .
Hi Chandana There are a few major things to consider when updating the site: **Keep same URLs ** Maybe the single most important factor is to not change allready ranking URLs. I do understand that changing the look of the site might require this, but you should at least do your absolute best not to change them. Also if you have a mutlilevel structure such as www.example.com/category/page be very careful changing the category since that will mean you also change all subpages. I would check pagerank and incoming traffic from search for each of the pages, then make a note on what pages are most important. You can use www.opensiteexplorer.org and Google Analytics for this. 301 redirects If you have to change your URL structure then make sure you do proper 301 redirects to the new URLs. This will not prevent you from loosing ranking on the page but will help you recover faster. On-page SEO Make sure your new site is optimized as far as possible for on-page SEO. Before you move, test the old page, then make sure the new page is atleast as good. Maybe also a good idea to look at headings and try to follow the same structure. Use the quite excellent tool from SEOMoz for this. You should find it here: http://www.seomoz.org/tools Internal Link structure This is not all that easy but try to look at how your internal link structure looks at the old site and move this to the new site. What footer links you got? What keywords you use in the links? What menus you use? If your new site is going for a dropdown menu this typically adds a massive amount of links to your site. This might be important. Be careful When making new sites its easy to get too busy designing and building the new site. Just play it cool and make sure not to make any mistakes such as leaving a no index tag or forgetting to remove a default robots.txt. Take an extra day to go through it all. Spot mistakes as quick as you can Make sure to use Google Webmastertools and Analytics to spot any problems and correct them as fast as you can.
