Title Length Vs Keywords
Hi there This is more from a search standpoint and how much of your title will show. If your titles are getting the main point of the content across in SERPs, with keywords toward the front of the title, then you should be fine. That said, I would not add too many or repeat keywords as this could be consider over optimization and keyword stuffing, which can trip spam filters, and it will also make your titles long. Here are some tips from Moz on title tags, there is also a tool to test your title tags and their appearance. Hope this all helps! Good luck!

Spike then Drop in Direct Traffic?
You might want to check if you have spam in your reports, especially this referral free-social-buttons. This referral spam hits with direct visit along with the referral part. The problem of this spam over others is that even if you filter the referral you will keep getting the fake direct visits, but luckily there is a solution, if you check the hostname that these direct visits use you will see that is not set or it's fake as any Ghost Spam in Google Analytic, so they way to stop this type of spam in any form(referral, keyword or direct) is to create a valid hostname filter that will only allow valid traffic. You can check full details of this issue in this article: http://www.ohow.co/unusual-increase-in-direct-traffic-on-ga-spam/

Is 1:1 301 redirect required on indexed URL when restructing URL even if the new URL is canonicalized?
If I was in your shoes, even though your canonicals are working (great step #1), I'd be inclined to clean up the URLs are much as possible and 301 any duplicate pages that you can get approval for. You'll always want to have your canonicals coded in regardless. But having less actually pages will save you in other areas - content audits, Google bot and other bots crawl time, space on your server, confusion for customers, etc. Less can be more in this case.

Confused: Url Restructure
Hi again Harry Here's what I would do. I would take a look at the following resources: On-Page Factors (Moz) The Ultimate Guide to SEO for E-commerce Websites (KISSmetrics) 17 Essential SEO Strategies for E-Commerce Sites (Inc) Technical Site Audit Checklist: 2015 Edition (Moz) There are probably opportunities beyond your URL structure that you are missing - your URL structure and depth (you're not going that deep at all) alone won't hurt your PA and DA the way you think it will. Do a quick honest assessment of the layout and content of your website and see where you can enhance areas. Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!

Redirect HTTP to HTTPS
Yes - for the simple reason that from January 2017, Google Chrome will start marking all sites that do not have https active on sensitive pages as insecure - this is a very important step. As is the way with Google, this 'gentle' shepherding is surely a forewarning of a move to 'https is mandatory' before long... https://security.googleblog.com/2016/09/moving-towards-more-secure-web.html "Eventually, we plan to label all HTTP pages as non-secure, and change the HTTP security indicator to the red triangle that we use for broken HTTPS." So really, you have no choice, and honestly, it's not so bad. We just moved our entire site to https without any issues.

Deeper Levels = Lower Page Authority?
Hi Harry, I changed the status to "Discussion", because - as a moderator - I consider that the answers summed up substantially offer you a solution, but - as it is quite common in SEO - there is space for further discussion. Moreover, the "discussion" status may attract more people into offering valuable opinions.

Certain PHP Pages Not Showing In SERPs
Like I said, it's very difficult, if not impossible, to diagnose this kind of problem without the URL. Learn more about 301 redirects at http://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection .

Strategy for 301s/404s
If you could just show the 404 error and custom message on the original URL it would save you a redirect. Otherwise, that sounds like a good plan.

Business in one location, be found in others?
Hi Harry, Agree with Ryan here that your client is in an excellent position to rank organically (if not locally) for additional cities, given the non-existence of competitors in his 30 mile radius. However, you have 2 major challenges to address and overcome. A car dealership is a brick-and-mortar business without any obvious relationship to any city beyond its own. This is not a service area business that goes to towns B, C and D to repair plumbing or trim trees. So challenge #1 is to sit down with the client and do an honest assessment of whether the two of you can discover a legitimate connection to cities B, C and D. Just off the top of my head, this might include: Sponsorship of events, sports teams or other things in cities B, C and D Rotating regional specials, as in, bring us a piece of mail with your address in City B and receive a 5% discount on X at our dealership Participation in industry-related happenings in these other cities. For example, blog coverage of an antique car show, an auto race, a vintage car club, teaching at a driver's training school or teaching road safety to students. Blog coverage of industry-related news or laws pertaining to cars, traffic, safety, etc. that is applicable to each of the specific cities Endorsements of or tie-ins to businesses in the other cities. For example, partner with an auto garage in City B to provide some kind or special for doing business with both companies. These are the types of things you need to brainstorm. If no relationship to the other cities exists, then the customer can't move forward. He must either mine his business model to discover these relationships or begin to build them so that he can prove he is a relevant result for these other cities. Challenge #2 hinges on the quality of what you and the client develop together. You mention that you are already working on city landing pages. The client should aim for just 1 page per target city on the website and make it as interesting, useful and strong as possible. Do not create thin or duplicative pages. This is not a good marketing strategy for any business, under any circumstances. Once you have got the basic page in place featuring the 'relationship' content, consider developing an on-site blog to continue on with this work, producing new writing on an on-going basis about contests, events, specials etc. You don't have to do tons of this, because of the lack of competition. Even a single blog post a month for each of the target cities will likely get you pretty far in what you're hoping to achieve, because of the client's fortunate lack of competitors. In all efforts, stress quality to the client and this should be a viable strategy. Hope this helps!

Search Result Brings Up Home Page
Sometimes the links pointing to the homepage make it strong enough that even a slight mention of the words can make it more relevant than the page in the eyes of the search engine. Other times older versions of a page were redirected to the homepage rather than page > page. What also happens sometimes is that duplicate content on a page will cause a page to be hidden in search results and Google will instead return the homepage in its place (usually in a lower position than the page would have been.)

MOZ On Page Grader Not Seeing Changes
Do you have any caching on the site that may be preventing the update to be seen live? If you open the page in a browser, is the page title your new and updated title? If the answer is no, then I would look at any caching that may be holding your previous page elements rather than your new one.

To include in Sitemap or not to include?
Thank you for your suggestions! Essentially, yes we want to tell Google this page is there, but to not 'trick it' and then that page disappears just as Google finds it resulting in a 404. We're going to get a sitemap generated each day as so much content changes on the site anyway, but No Indexing and 301'ing is something we'll then give a go. I'll keep you posted on progress! Thanks!
