RE: Yoast focus keywords for portfolio post types in WordPress
Your focus keywords I think are right on! I was stuck on the path of what type of design i did technically and not thought about breaking it up into genres. Duh! why was that not on the top of my list

I have read Yoast's guide and bought their two e-books as well. Problem is they leave out specifics regarding their plugin. Try to find a tutorial written by yoast about best practices to set up and utilize their plugin. They will not give you this as they want to sell their personalized service and set the plugin up for you. I don't blame them however it would be nice to see how they set up title tags and not spend $600 bucks for it

What do you think about testimonial post types?

Yoast focus keywords for portfolio post types in WordPress
This one is for the WordPress optimization crowd!
Portfolios are used to display work. I have a question about best seo optimization techniques.
1. Portfolios can be used to display many different types of work, for me it either original web designs from scratch, WordPress redesigns, or importing a current website into WordPress. What is the best practice for keywords for multiple portfolios that are in one category. for instance WordPress Redesign. If I have 5 WordPress redesign portfolio posts is it good practice to use WordPress redesign for all 5 portfolios or should they use variations? Yoast gets angry when the same focus keyword is used multiple times.
2. Should portfolios even be indexed? Since this is how I attract new customers I would think yes but am I giving too much exposure to my client and not enough to my business. I guess this will depend on titles and meta descriptions.
A discussion on best practices here is what I am really looking for. What is your advice and opinion on the matter.

RE: Local SEO - Do I need it if I don't do business locally?
This is a topic I have struggled with as I have a client who sells digital products to a national audience. As if it could not get any worse my client sells a digital product in the very competitive fitness industry.
So how do you start a campaign where the client wants to have national legs but has yet to make a name for himself? Answer: Locally.
You need to start somewhere. The competitive nature of a national campaign can be overwhelming. Though my client had the grand vision of promoting his product nationally to start, he did not have a bankroll to reach that kind of audience. National campaigns require onsite and offsite seo as well as large advertising campaign to produce buzz about a product.
So we started locally here in New Jersey optimizing the site to attract local customers from the state creating new content as we moved along. Building links and reaching out to influencers beyond our local reach has now produce a regional campaign.
We can only grow from here but at every level the work load gets greater and greater.
If you do not prefer the slow build from local grass roots you could use sub domains to create region based sites that you could optimize. Rember that original content is preferred so this process could become a burden.

RE: How to add meta descriptions in WordPress
I am using Yoast too however on a page that is not set as a static front page Yoast wants you to use the Tag Line for site description and title. I guess I need to convert the front page to a static page instead of widgets. the Udesign theme wants to display the tagline on the front page so I will have to modify the php files, I was trying to stay away from that.

RE: Two months into SEO and I have a few questions. Read on.
When you are searching your keywords make sure you are not logged into your Google account that is linked to your blog/website. Many times Google shows you what you want to see ranking your page much higher when you search but not others. logging out of your Google account will give you a better view of your keywords rank.
Google in general can fluctuate search results especially based on the location of the IP address. Google has become location based and will return relevant information based on geographic regions that searches are preformed.

How to add meta descriptions in WordPress
Hello,
I have a WordPress website in which the front page is built entirely with text widgets. How would I add key words and meta descriptions. Yoast does not give an option for this and it seems WordPress does not support meta descriptions. Anyone have ideas?
The website is championfitprogram.com

Should archives get a no-follow? Should i optimize content on archive pages for seo purposes such as adding meta descriptions.
Thank you

I am looking for the best post and page title template
There seems to be a few schools of thought as to how the title templates in the yoast plugin. currently mine are set with the default templates
posts title template (%%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%)
page title template (%%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%)
What are the best options here for proper SEO. I am learning as much as i can but i have searched for a concrete answer here on the net, but found many different responses. What do you all think? What is my best option?
