RE: Are tags important for SEO?
Wow - thanks for all that info. I appreciate it. One quick question - can I forget tags altogether - and noindex them? I don't feel any need to use them on my site.

Ah. I had no idea tags helped with search engines. Thanks!

RE: Are tags important for SEO?
Interesting. So how are tags different than categories? I already categorize all my posts and they're usually in several categories. I have category pages noindexed which was advised here on this forum.

RE: When should I dofollow a link?
Ok I see. So basically I should follow all my links except for affiliate links?
Is there a plugin that can help me do that? Because right now, the only thing I know how to do is follow or nofollow the entire page. I don't want to deal with code because it would take a long time for me to do. I am a deal blog and link have a lot of amazon affiliate links.
Edit: I am using Thesis.

Category Descriptions if Category Pages are Noindexed?
I have noindexed my category pages. Do I still need to write a description for my categories? I am using the plugin SEO Content Control to see what I can spiff up but I don't want to waste my time. Thank you!

Are tags important for SEO?
I just installed a plugin called SEO content control and it is telling me I need to write descriptions for my tags. I haven't been using tags although I did create a list of them. I don't have an endless amount of time on my hands so is this a worthwhile task?

When should I dofollow a link?
I know I should have all my affiliate links as nofollow but when should I dofollow a link? When will it HELP me to have a dofollow link?
Right now - all my links are nofollow because I haven't figured out how to have nofollow and dofollow in the same blog post.
Any info appreciated!

RE: SEO for a Deal Blog
Thank you!
Ok that is something I have tried to do. If I mention a certain deal on Amazon - underneath I try and give good info on Amazon Mom membership, or review the product if I have it. So I try to extend it for the newbies to give them info (and make google happy) even though I know a lot won't read it.
Should I deindex some of my coupon/sale posts - the ones I am sure won't be picked up by google anyway due to VERY HIGH competition? Or ones that I don't have time to bulk out?
Is there a tool out there that can analyze my site as a whole and say if it is low quality?

RE: How do I redirect a page that no longer exists?
I see. Yes the 301s are just within my own site. Whew that makes me feel better.
Ok since I said I was using Wordpress in the OP, I figured CMS meant something else. Good to know.
I will check out that link, thanks!

RE: Category pages - SEO or deindex?
I don't get any traffic to my category pages but of course my site is new so I am just getting a couple organic hits per day.
But my category pages do just give an excerpt. More than a sentence or two though. I already deindexed them. I guess I can revisit that later.

RE: Category pages - SEO or deindex?
My category pages just organize all my blog posts. Nothing new.

RE: Category pages - SEO or deindex?
I just remembered that Thesis and Wordpress SEO sometimes conflict. I made some adjustments and added some code to alleviate some of these conflicts but perhaps the deindexing of category pages was overrode by Thesis.
I just clicked on noindex category pages in Thesis. I also clicked on noarchive to category pages in Thesis.
Will that do it?

RE: Category pages - SEO or deindex?
I am using YOAST SEO so that is good. So I don't have to do anything to get them deindexed?
If Wordpress SEO (by Yoast) deindexes my category pages, why are they showing up in my sitelinks? I tried to demote the category pages but they keep showing up. Thanks!
