Hi Alex - have you considered using a format such as this for your title tags - Word | Brand Name However to actually answer your question it is fine to use hyphens I have several well ranked pages that use a hyphen in the title tag and this has not caused me any issues - out ranking sites that don't use the hyphen format. The thing I would think about though is having your brand regularly coming before anything else in the title tag that's why I suggested the format above - just a suggestion. You can still rank well for branded keywords with your brand being second in the title tag order.

I landed at the same place: unable to record all the legacy links being directed through my redirects, while definitely benefiting from them.
