Many thanks for replying to my concern.

However, not to be ungrateful, but rather than knowing which solution would be best, What I'm really looking for is how you set up the subfolders as I'm really unsure.

My third party web developers is telling me to just type in "en-us" (if I was to create an American page) into a field called folder everytime I build a "hidden page".

This doesn't seem right to me, I'm expecting that the developer needs to create these subfolders to which I can then work in. But to do it this way my web developer is telling me that I would need to create a ccTLD for each region and then 301 redirect them to a hidden page on the "main website".

This just doesn't seem logical, so if you could shed any light on this I would be really grateful.

Hi Lynn, thanks for your post.

I highly agree with you that TLC's are the best option when it comes to SEO. Unfortunately, our company don't have the resources to build up each individual site, and hence would look to benefit from consolidating all of our links using one website.

Hi, Please can you help, I believe I may have been given false information about the way sub folders are added to a site.

My company are a global company and we would like to start targeting individual country's more effectively with the use of sub folders using our existing domain.

However, I have been told by our external web development company that in order to do this we need to create separate websites (eg, www.mycompany.de, www.mycompany.en etc) and then re-direct them to folders within the .com site.

Is this the correct way to produce sub folders? If not how is it done?

I'm sure that this would be an incredibly expensive venture for us, but yet an incredible profitable one for them.

A while ago I altered some of the URL's of my website. Google now thinks that I have two duplicate pages (duplicate content), I have asked my third party web developers (Who use .NET and a custom built CMS system) to simply 301 redirect the old URL to the other.

However, my web developers say the following:

"Solving the problems by 301 permanent re directs are out of the question as this would create infinite loops. Likely to bring down our server."

They also wont do a canonical, as they say there is only one page (but two URLs)

Firstly, has any one heard of this before and do they think this is true?

Also, does anyone have an alternative method of getting rid of the old URL?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Many thanks for the advice. The thing that I'm most confused about is that my web developer (whom is third party) is telling me that this is the same page but two different URLs, Hence I can't add code or alter one as they are the same thing.

I looked into removing the cache in Google, but I can't do this as they ask you to type a word that is present in your new page but not in your old one, but obviously I cant do this as its "apparently" one page.

Do you think that there may be an issue with my web developers CMS system?

In your opinion is .NET an old CMS system? If so do you think it is worth updating?

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm not using word press, my company uses a third party web developer. I have already requested the web developer to do a 301 redirect and this is what they said:

Hi, I physically changed my URL as something else and now Google thinks I have two duplicate pages (I know not to do this in the future).

e.g. I had www.example.com/i-like-seo.aspx

and changed it to:

www.example.com/i-love-seo.aspx

Google sees this as two pages now and my CMS system is only showing one page (The new page) Also, SEOMOZ is seeing two pages and further more sees them both as having two different amounts of inbound links?

When I change content on the new url page, the old url page also updates. I'm really confused as to what has happened here and don't know how to get rid of the old url so that Google doesn't think that I have duplicate content.

Any help to what has happened or how to fix it would be so helpful and appreciated.

My web developer is telling me that it is best practice for SEO to place your keyword in your URL twice. For Example: www.example.com/testing-once/testing-once.aspx. I'm sure that this is not true, could you please help?
