Inclusion in the Google Knowledge Graph, Positive Benefits and Outcomes
Yeah, these are the newish attributed answer boxes (that come from the index/web), and here's what we know so far. Basically, if Google interprets a query as question-like (which is an ability that may have come out of Hummingbird or been increased by that update), then they look at the sites ranking on page 1 and try to see who's title/snippet/content best match the question. In other words, you have to rank on page 1 organically, and then you have to provide a decent answer. This second part still seems pretty crude right now - Google seems to be trying to match against question/answer keywords in a fairly literal way. So, if you see a competitor ranking, you may want to tweak your page title, Meta Description, and on-page content to better match the intent of the question or to sound more like a succinct answer.

Find the Needle UK Link Quality Advice
In my experience the smaller niche directories are a little different to those that are very large, generic and spammy which any Tom, Dick and Harry can feature on. As it focuses a bit more on the manufacturing industry It will most likely be ok and in essence actually probabaly provide a bit of a benefit due to its relevancy. If it is a paid for directory the links should really be no followed to avoid any penalties, I would also try not to use directories for link value but more for brand awareness and driving relevant traffic. It is the aforementioned larger none niche specific directories I would certainly steer well clear of. Hope that makes sense. Cheers Tim

Any way to track an Email Href in Analytics ?
James, sorry for any confusion. I'm certainly not going to discourage you from checking out the article, but, the article is an outline from how to set up the tracking URLs in Analytics at that time (Oct 2012). As we know, GA has transformed their setup significantly. The nice thing for us is that GA still continues to track those URLs we set up as individual "Goals" so that saved us and many clients from having to redo or modify anything as GA evolved. The Google link Lynn referenced is your best bet for setting up now Patrick

General Advice or Strategies on optimizing Non-Plural and Plural
Thank you both for the feedback, Yes, I am not looking to have two pages correct, The theme and topic of the page is currently targeting the plural variant, and i feel this is the best way for it with how our site is laid out, However i am saying it would be possible for me to change how the content is written to accommodate the singular variant of the word (Where more search traffic is) however i don't think this would be the right thing to do, If i stick to my guns and the content and page is targeted towards plural, Google would still look after me for ranking for both variants, I content and translation support from a colleague in Germany, and have as long as it takes Thanks James

Rel Canonical or Rel Alternate advice please
Hi James, Thanks for clearing that up - I don't like to assume and get anything wrong For this, you want to use rel="alternative" hreflang"nnnn". This will allow you to serve up duplicate content to different locations. Google goes into this in more detail here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en It has been introduced to help exactly this sort of problem. I hope it helps. -Andy

Google Ranking Generally in Germany - Keywords & Umlauts
Thank you, i did look at this particularly how the competition was typing the keyword on the page and they all still use the umlaut, but as for the url structure it could be an idea for me to make changes so it would be http://www.cirrusresearch.de/produkte/schallpegelmessgeraet/ yea thanks, i may look at changing this structure slightly, but i am still not quite sure that would be a reason for my current ranking to be so poor

Competitor keyword image alt tag on their templates company logo
James, there are many factors that determine a home page's rankings in Google and the alt tags of images that link to it from within the site is but a very small one. What you describe is commonplace on the web and because of that, the technique doesn't really count for much as far as SEO so I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the contents of the logo's alt tag is thematically relevant to the products/service produced by the brand, it would be considered acceptable.

Releasing Multiple Language Blog Articles ?
If you are using WordPress you can use "J translate" which allows you to have multiple versions of the copy per language. That is what we use for our foreign clients or websites that require multiple languages.
