I know that link wheels and such like this are pretty popular right now and have been for a few years or so, and personally I think if it is done in a fashion that is genuinely helpful to the end user in finding relevant information about the subject in question then Search Engines will probably see this as well. But I think, with newer algorithm updates footprints left by tactics like this are looked at and scrutinized more for this type of activity as "manipulatory" or Engineered to Manipulate even if they may not be that in reality. It is a tactic in my opinion that should be employed, but employed for referential purposes and not engineered just to pass the most amount of rank and not always self serving. w00t! Shane

Hi, It is quite possible for Page Authority to be higher than Domain Authority as the two are independent of each other. PA is essentially a measure of how likely an individual page is to rank, while DA applies across entire domains & sub domains. SEOmoz recently introduced an update to the calculation of PA & DA which has brought a higher level of accuracy. I was able to single handed start my business in my back bedroom with a dell PC and £400 in a business bank account. I took my company site to the Top 5 for Internet marketing in the UK in competition with companies with thousands of investment. I think you have to look at the positives a single guy or smaller team has over a larger organisation. You can act right away without waiting for a boards decision or internal decisions on budgets. In the longterm you will learn that as EGOL mentioned you need to start building a team where people can cover different skills. No one person can cover all areas or has expertise in all.

Ok, its been about 2 weeks, checked this morning and I have moved up 1 position and the blog site is now 1 position below me.

I have seen some pretty crazy rankings from EMD's, I believe if you had these on your side, it would be A LOT easier to beat them.

I have seen and achieved this with many keywords. Normally the less competitive a keyword is the less strict google is with eclipsing multiple listings.

If the site is not relevant, I would do as Anthony suggests and try to spin it to be relevant. Yes, some links from non relevant will give positive effect, but remember: Most people want to do link building the easy way, if you do it the right way you will end up ahead of them. PA gives you an idea of how much more/less authority you have compared to your competitor's page.  The number of linking root domains gives you a rough benchmark of how many more unique linking domains you'll need to catch up to them. I would say the more the marier all though PR 6 is stronger. Do both but if you have to choose go for the domain that is similar to your content that has given me the best result so far. Also remember that traffic with high quality has a great impact on rankings. Rand about user metrics. Basicly if you write for a blog that has similar content and the traffic brings visitors with low bounce rate and so on you should keep blogging.

Online Football Boot Store, Buying Football Boots, something of that nature that would imply buying. I like using keywords that don't necessarily have the product in them, but target the lifestyle of the shopper. Good luck on your Quest! Justin Smith

Thanks for the great replies Shane. Well I doubt I would use this tactic, I was just doing something and the idea popped into my head so wanted to get a second opinion. Christmas keywords are very competitive like you said, so was just thinking of ideas on how to get a new page ranking in such a competitive area.

Hi Activity Super, If there are no backlinks to the blacksocks.co.uk domain, and if the two domains are clearly both owned by you, then there is virtually zero benefit from 301 redirecting it. The only benefit that could come is from type in traffic, which is going to be negligible anyway. That said, redirecting one domain isn't going to do you any harm. However, be careful about redirecting domains that you own to other domains that you own in large quantities, as you risk a penalty. A small amount is okay, but not more than that. Thanks j

Run a Promotion Answering you question above I would say that running competition's/giving stuff away won't necessarily help your conversions in your list for that you need to optimize the copy in the email you send out.

.com is such a broadly accepted TLD that I find it hard to believe anyone in the UK would question it's not a UK site. As long as the content looks UK focussed then you're fine. If you slap an American flag in the corner then that might cause a problem Think of all the huge UK brands that have .com sites... moneysupermarket.com, moonpig.com, etc, etc. It's just as normal to have a .com in the UK as it is to have a .co.uk
