Well I doubt I would use this tactic, I was just doing something and the idea popped into my head so wanted to get a second opinion.

Christmas keywords are very competitive like you said, so was just thinking of ideas on how to get a new page ranking in such a competitive area.

When you say there is a chance of getting a duplicate penalty how do you mean?

If my site has unique content and the domain I want to redirect had unique content then all your telling Google to do is pass on the PR to the new site.

I know a lot of affiliates will use the content the merchants supply them, which yes can flag that domain as dup and gain a penalty from it, but if the affiliate has built up some good PR then there is a good chance they know dup content is wrong and would have not used it.

Well the nofollow on the homepage link along with the others is to stop the link juice at that page, that's one of the reasons im guessing it ranks so well.

As you have allowed the links to follow and therefore the link juice, you might find some of the other pages rank a little better but the #1 page might drop but im not 100% sure so best see what others say as well.

Might be a silly question but wanted to ask it anyway.

Lets say I run a gifts website and this year I decide I want to try for a more competitive keyword 'Christmas Gifts'.

Now each year I see a lot of search on for example 'Christmas Gifts 2011' and because of the search volume the EMD for this is gone (an affiliate has brought it or something).

So the affiliate works hard on ranking it builds up say PR2-PR3 but when it comes around to renewing the domain they don't bother because 2011 search volume has passed and they move onto 'Christmas Gifts 2012'.

My question is this: If I was to buy the 'Christmas Gifts 2011' when it expires and redirect it to my Xmas page would it pass the PR and give my new page a boost?

If I have a website with the domain crazysocks.co.uk and a title tag 'black socks' would I see any benefit redirecting blacksocks.co.uk to crazysocks.co.uk, to give my keyword 'black socks' a boost in the SE's from the EMD.

I see it loads where an EMD is indexed for its term but when you click the result it redirects to a branded domain.

I personally cant see this being true but wanted to double check.

The site doesn't rank anywhere at the moment but I have just researched into the top result and these are the figures given, does not look like shed loads of work to get up there!

Ok I have a 301 redirect happening from a .htaccess file.

Its redirecting from non www to www.

I have set the www in webmaster tools and deleted other.

Regarding the content, the site was indexed first with the new content, so ill check every now and then to see if anyone steals content but what can you really do about that?

I thought the panda update was to stop this sort of action?

In order to select a preferred prefix for a domain in webmaster tools you have to add two active webmaster tools domains, one being www and the other being non www.

So,

example.com

www.example.com

Both of these have been set to use the prefix www and both have the same xml sitemap selected.

I'm running on a window server which does not support .htaccess files and I dont no how to use isapi.

My website is coming up in omitted results for search term.

Now I have heard before if this is the case then its mainly due to a duplicate content penalty.

But the content I used is unique and produced by a copywriter so its good.

Its a new site and was in the results for about 2 weeks, I changed the non www to www in webmaster tools 1 day ago and now its sitting in omitted results.

In webmaster tools I had to add the domain twice one non www and one www.

Both accounts I hooked up a sitemap.

Is it just because the site is new and its just working out where to rank me?

Just so you know the non www was indexed for the 2 weeks changed it in webmaster tools so I wanted the www one indexed and now gone into omitted results.

If a E-commerce website based in the UK (and selling products only to the UK) have a .com domain will this stop UK visitors?

I kind of getting the feeling some potential visitors might not visit because they feel the website is not UK based because they see the .com.

Anyone else had any experience with this?

I have tried that in webmaster tools, I set it up verified the website by adding the tracking code, at this point I can add a sitmap etc BUT when I try to set the www prefix it says you need to verify before you can.

So,

domain indexed is footballboots.co.uk (fictitious)

I start building backlinks using www.footballboots.co.uk.

Should I have started building backlinks using footballboots.co.uk for this to work better?

I'm a member now of myblogguest.com website, I have paid for the pro subscription and have uploaded 1 article (basically to just see how the system works).

I've got 15 articles a month which I want to pump out to blogs but has anyone got any tips using the myblogguest system to get blog websites to pick these up?

I think I have been fair, 500 words of unqiue content with 1 anchor text link in the body, thats it.

In an ideal world I would love it if I had 15 articles all being grabbed by 15 different blogs each month.

I do rank for another EMD, which is at position 4, I built it in couple hours and did 1 hour link building, O and it has 8 affiliate links point out as well.

A lot of the answers on here point to building high quality links, which makes sense but where do you find these links?

Lets say the website sells Football Boots, the current keyword you are trying to rank for is say 'Indoor Football Boots'.

How do you now go about looking for those links?
