There is nothing like match types in SEO. It is used in paid campaign. are you asking about paid campaign?

The best place to start  is Google analytics. Check last 3months, 6 months and 12 months data. Find top performing keyword then search those terms is keyword tools to find related keywords and stats.

Hi,

If you already have adwords account then I would see only exact match search terms with significant number of conversions and revenue(in case of ecommerce site) and use those search terms in SEO.
