Website crawl error
-
Hi all,
When I try to crawl a website, I got next error message: "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Illegal cookie name"
For the moment, I found next explanation:
The errors indicate that one of the web servers within the same cookie domain as the server is setting a cookie for your domain with the name "path", as well as another cookie with the name "domain"
Does anyone has experience with this problem, knows what it means and knows how to solve it?
Thanks in advance!
Jens

Hi ,
I don't know what it means exactly but I assure you it is not related to SEO not even technical seo issue.
It is related to programing/coding so ask your programmer/web developer to fix the issue.
"java.lang.IllegalArgumentException - if the cookie name is null or empty or contains any illegal characters (for example, a comma, space, or semicolon) or matches a token reserved for use by the cookie protocol"
Thanks

Hi Alick300,
Thanks for your answer.
The hosting company said it wasn't a hosting issue and that is was rather website related. It is the first time we have this problem in the screaming frog spider tool.
Thanks

Hi Jens,
Do you mean that this problem is limited to crawling one specific site with Screaming Frog? If so, have you tried crawling this site with other tools such as Moz Pro and Google Search Console?

Hi Christy,
Thanks for your answer!
Yes, it only happens with this specific site in Screaming Frog. I also did a crawl test on Moz Pro and there were no issues. Google Search Console doesn't point out big issues neither.
The website does save 9 cookies but none of them have any name value even close to path or domain.
Thanks,
Jens
