So I just double checked and it is tracking via javascript because if you disable javascript the url doesn't change when you load the page.

I would assume that link juice will be passed because it's running through javascript so that's probably not seen by google anyways. It's not actually a redirect. Its the same page. A # in a url generally is just used as an anchor so that you can link users to certain elements on a page so I believe that google probably will just ignore the hashtag and everything after it anyways.

So as far as I can tell you should be receiving linkjuice from these affiliate links as you would from a normal link.

          Hey Matt

Using affiliate links as a backlink strategy can be risky business. Especially if you're allowing every Tom, Dick and Harry join the program.

In answer to your question, hashed URLs will pass PR, and should be fine if the affiliate is in a related niche/sector. That's a widely used SEO strategy to bolster your backlink profile, albeit slightly grey hat.

However I would seriously look at using the rel=nofollow attribute when providing links to affiliates in unrelated niches.

          Make sense?

              Hey seowoody,

Thanks for the response! The plan is to find affiliates in related niches.  Would general running blogs, be considered a related niche for "running shirts" to google, since there are no specific "running shirts" blogs.

              Thanks,

              Matt

Well I'm not going to second guess how Google sees it, but from a logical POV, I would say it's fine.
