Google Update Frequency

Hi, I recently found a large number of duplicate pages on our site that we didn't know existed (our third-party review provider was creating a separate page for each product whether it was reviewed or not - the ones not reviewed are almost identical so they have been no indexed. Question - how long do you have to typically wait for Google to pick this up On our site? Is it a normal crawl or do we need to wait for the next Panda review (if there is such a thing)? Thanks much.

If these issues caused your site to be looked unfavorably upon by the Panda algorithm, then you may see improvements within a month. Google refreshes Panda approximately monthly and each time it refreshes it takes up to 10 days to fully roll out. They no longer announce the refresh dates.
With that being said, sometimes a site needs to go through a couple of Panda refreshes in order to see an improvement.

This is very helpful - thank you!

Sorry - one related question. What is the best way to know when the Google update took place? If I see a change in rankings I could probably guess, but if I don't, then I will not know if my changes didn't work or if the algorithm update didn't happen. I hope this makes sense! Thanks

Unfortunately there's no way to know for sure. If you follow the website www.seroundtable.com, Barry Schwartz keeps an eye on the chatter amongst SEO forums and often he can tell when a possible Panda update is happening. But, it's always a guess.

Got it - thanks! i am optimistic that the duplicate pages I fixed will make a big difference and I will be able to tell, but well see! ... Neil
