Google Tag Manager - General Questions
-
I am trying to implement google tag manager on our site for a couple of reasons, mainly site speed and ease of adding a tag without the developer.
I can't seem to find the exact parameters of what I can be adding into a tag. Can I add in our search extensions, chat widgets, security buttons, social etc.. ? What about if the code has to be technically wrapped around a different element like a search bar?
Additionally what's the checkbox option for document.write supposed to do? Here's what I mean: http://screencast.com/t/NhzIzGxU2s
Any information would be helpful, Thanks!

Hi - the question/issue you pose is why I think promoting Tag Management without a web developer is selling marketers a 'bill of goods'. A web developer's background and expertise is imperative to making it all work. What tag management promoters should tout is that tag management reduces the need for the web developer to modify on-site code all the time. It is still a requirement to know how JavaScript works as well as how query string parameters function, etc.
My opinion listed above doesn't outright answer your question. The answer is that you still need a web developer's expertise to implement the tracking or function you're after. Without seeing your site, the tags you'd like to add, etc., it will be tough to answer with directly useful info.
All the best,

Hi Mitchell,
Thanks for your response. I do work with a developer but one of the main things I am trying to figure out is; what type of tags can I put there. I know the obvious ones, but what about my chat widget and search code - is that a tag?
Thanks!
