I came across some good reading on Moz re: how deep your structure should go (ex: how many clicks does it take to get to the bottom.) It's from 2011, but I assume the info still applies today?

Absolutely this still applies. Site architecture is one of most important things that can be done. The ability for Google to crawl your site, the speed in which your site is delivered to users and to go a lot faster site is faster it's crawled by Google bot more end-users like it.

If you are talking about site architecture some of the biggest I would say changes of been almost the entire eradication of flash websites Flash is probably the worst for search engine optimization and the great prominence of WordPress one of the better architectures for search engine optimization the nothings perfect.

HTML 5 and CSS three are great tools that we've all been given. I believe the use of new site architecture schema is a enormous improvement.

Google has gotten so good that they now allow us to make contact which serves the end-user and end-user determines whether or not our content is good. It is a fantastic that search engine optimization no longer needs to fall on manipulation of anything.

I remember the beginning of the whiteboard Fridays starting like this wow have times changed

Thank you for your response. I am researching the issue for our Content Strategist and didn't want to lead her astray if there were any big developments in the past two years. Common sense suggests this is still a good idea, but good to know from others. Thanks! 🙂
