I have lots of pages with video above the fold and they rank great for some difficult terms.

My pages are two column with video at the top of one, text at the top of the other, and long content below all of that.

To add to EGOL's response, i would also recommend doing a lot of A/B testing with landing pages. The goal at the end of the day should not just be getting traffic to the site but conversions. Use the Google website optimizer to run A/B or Multi variate tests with your landing pages and choose the winner based on the results. Try placing the video at the top or text (call to action, testimonials) and see what performs better from a conversion standpoint.
