Optimizing Flash websites
-
Does anyone know the latest on how well Google is indexing flash sites? I'm talking to a prospect now whose site is 100% flash, but looking at it all the content within the site is indexed and returning in the results.
This is promising enough, but does anyone know exactly how well Google is indexing flash content these days and are there still any problems with that?
Thanks!

They are able to index elements in flash that are using "dynamic text" rather than "static text". This is very similar to an unflattened PDF vs a flattened PDF.

However, in no way would i suggest using flash for an entire website it is not only bad for search usability but for usability as well. Just think of all the mobile audiences that you are ignoring

Thanks Kyle, much appreciated.
My first priority is to see if they'll consider a new HTML version, it remains to be seen if they'll be convinced.

Do any of them have an iPhone? That should be pretty convincing.

Hehe, thats it.

And given that Flash is on the way out, either they change now or they are going to be hosed later

Optimizing a flash website is like fighting a boxing match with one hand tied behind your back. You could do it, but why not go the easier route!?
