I remember this forum was full of people whinging about being out ranked by spammy websites with cheap links.
Now I see people with spammy websites and cheap links whinging they have lost rankings.
Those who were the wingers are now the winners and those that were winning are now whinging.
      Every dog has his day
There was a time where you could beat the system, those days have long gone, for long term results its not a matter of beating the search engines, but making sure you have not made any mistakes, that you are free from errors, you have prefect crawlability, good content and quality links.

I agree with you Alan, I think the best search engine is the one thinking like a human being, who likes  valuable content and, more generic, valuable websites, the one who's not easy to diddle.

The seo man is quickly becoming a wsm: website manager, dealing with code, content and usability.

        Cool, I think

I enjoy the sentiment very much Alan.

Most of us white hat SEOs have experienced challenges working with clients who ask why everyone else can get away with "stuff" (i.e. spammy links, bad code, nearly duplicate sites, etc) while we are asking them to avoid those tactics. Many clients are confused why their process worked for years but suddenly there is a problem.

Both Google and Bing have improved their processes. We are now seeing the benefits. For years the focus was simply building out the search engines. The focus then shifted to obtaining fresher data. Next, they had to focus on very serious issues such as malware, spam, pop-ups, porn, etc. Now the major search engines have gained control over all those issues they can focus on quality.

I expect and hope search engines continue on this path and improve the search world for the benefit of all. I also expect high quality content and website design to become more important then random links.

          Thanks for sharing.

I think that a lot of SEOs are getting blasted by angry client telephone calls and will be selling used cars by next week.   The ones who continue to do successful work will have more clients than they can handle.

                spot on Egol

Every new unregulated business attracts the fast money conmen, and SEO has had more then its fair share.

They may all be moving to the next big con.

It is used over here in the UK too Alan - Marisa I would sum it up as follows - basically a moaner or somebody that complains frequently in an irritating way. I agree completely with your points Alan, it is good to see that it is becoming harder and harder for those wanting to take shortcuts and game the system!

I have to say that the word whinger is most commonly used in the term, "a whinging pome". In regards to immigrants from the UK constantly telling us, its not like that back home.

Probabaly a unfair sterotype, but i am sure has a few simular about us.
