Backlink reports in OSE, the good and the bad!
-
Hi all Mozers, I have a couple of questions re the backlink reports in Open Site Explorer.
In the introductory video Rand suggests that you can indentify backlinks that are a) Having a positive effect, and b) Having a negative effect on SEO campaigns. Do you identify such links using the domain/page authority of the linking page?
Also, we know we have more links than OSE is reporting, does this mean that the links that are not reported are not helping our SEO campaign?
Many thanks in advance, much appreciated.

Yes page and domain authority are the way to go along with link text and page relevancy.
OSE dose not crawl the whole web, so you will not get all the links, it does try to get as many quaility sites as posible and the bestter pages from those sites, a missing link is proabbaly not a top notch exelent link, but it could still be a good one. There is no backlink report that shows all links, so you have to make do with a sample.

Much appreciated Alan, always good to have your suspicions confirmed! Enjoy the weekend

I agree with Alan.
Use OSE as a guide. It's about the best thing we have for competitor analysis. I have MUCH more information in GWT.
