Good morning from Wetherby UK 🙂 Ok imagine this scenario. You ask the developers to design a site where "offices to let" is on level two of a sites hierachy and so the URL would look like this:

http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk/office-to-let. But Yikes when it goes live it ends up like this:

http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk...s/residential/office-to-let Is a fix to this a URL re - write? Or is the only fix relocating the office to let content further up the site structure?

      Any insights welcome 🙂

Your second URL got cut off, so I can't see the exact length.

You'll definitely want to keep the URL shorter, but when I think of Site Structure in terms of site indexation, I'm thinking more in terms of # of clicks from the homepage than I am about URL structure (not to say URL isn't important).

Matt Cutts has indicated that Google places less priority on keywords towards the end of a long URL (source), so keep that in mind when considering the value that will be placed on the page name itself (which will often be more important than the subfolder keywords used).

I'd personally change them for user experience and because it looks cleaner and less spammy.

        • New SEO manager needs help! Currently only about 15% of our live sitemap (~4 million url e-commerce site) is actually indexed in Google. What are best practices sitemaps for big sites with a lot of changing content?

        • Recently revamped site structure - now not even ranking for brand name, but lots of content - what happened? (Yup, the site has been crawled a few times since) Any ideas? Did I make a classic mistake? Any advise appreciated :)
