Will links from blog directories to our subfolder-located blog within our website help the ranking of our overall site?  In other words, will it just help the rankings of the main blog page (where the directory links are pointing to), or will it pass the link juice to the rest of the site?

Yes, absolutely.   However, the greatest benefit will go to the specific pages where the links are connecting.

Based upon watching my own sites for a long time, I believe that if you get a link from an authoritative "widgets" site it gives some boost to widget content all over your site. (This is not 'linkjuice" it is something even better).

Then if you get a link from a world class site such as whitehouse.gov vatican.va  cern.ch  kids.gov ... the trust delivered through a link like that will kick up your SERPs everywhere - even if the link is on an obscure page.  (This is not 'linkjuice" it is something even better).

I agree with EGOL. It should still help the rest of your site, although having the blog in a subfolder is better at passing link juice to the rest of your site.

Speaking of blog directories, I recommend submitting to AllTop.com. They are a pretty high authority blog directory and it may actually send you traffic.
