We have had this problem a couple times now!

A corporate client will not sign off on any new landing page development. Instead, we need a creative content strategy that we can use to target their keyphrases AND maintain a corporate/professional veneer.

I'd love to hear your ideas and things that have worked for you for onsite optimization, when creating landing pages is out of the question.

Landing pages.... or doorway pages are a no no. You should move away from them all together if you are trying to rank. Packing a page with keywords to get ranking on it can get you penalized and dropped from Google.

Instead make a site that include relevant content and include your relevant keywords in that content. Make your page titles and page descriptions relevant to the content on the page and the keywords included. Organize the site in a logical manner and use H1, H2, and H3 tags but not too heavily.

That's it in a nutshell! Hope it helps!

Just to re-iterate what Stephan Cude said, landing pages are a strategy for conversion optimization, not for SEO specifically. If your clients goals are to rank for their keywords, you should be focusing on building great content optimized for those keywords, and then perform all the necessary on-page optimization as mentioned by Stephan.

If their goals are to convert their existing visitors better, its time to show them case studies on landing pages. With some of the numbers you can find out there, you can get any director C-level salivating pretty quickly.

We're looking at them from a conversion optimization perspective, while also ensuring that they're SEO-ed for the appropriate products and services. We're pretty good at onsite optimization and quality content creation, we just feel in a slight pickle sometimes with larger corporate clients when it comes to building new pages (landing pages or otherwise).

            Thanks for the responses.
