        Hi there Pascal,

The easiest way to bury competing sites is to create more high page rank websites.  These, by and large, are web 2.0 sites such as hubpages, tumblr, squidoo etc.

Once you have created some quality content, minimal amount of backlinking will be required to bolster up the new web properties.

        Hope that helps.

p.s. Update your old, out of date info! Either do it in the HTML, or redirect 301 to new, relevant content.

          Big Question

If you are saying that you have 7 of page one results then I'm not sure there is much of an issue. As long as you have the top 3 then I wouldn't worry. Anyone searching the exact name of your business will quickly scan the results and find their desired result. Take some time with your meta descriptions as these are what appear in the organic results and can have a big effect on click rate. If you have a local office or store then use www.getlisted.org . These directory sites have strong authority and jump to page 1. As regrads the review sites. If these results include your business and you are getting good  reviews then you want these results on page 1. Otherwise just 'keep up with the good work' 🙂

It sounds like your company already does dominate the front page. You are now seeking "totally domination". I am sure there is a movie line along those lines....total interstellar galactic domination!

I am not clear if your goal is to have more pages from your company's website appear on the first page, or if you desire to move these review sites off the front page. If you provide links to your social profile pages (facebook, twitter, etc) for your company, then these pages will get a boost in SERP. Otherwise your suggestion of adding additional content targeting similar keywords, building links to these pages and optimizing them can be effective as well.

Your sitemap shouldn't be an issue as it seems your site is being crawled effectively already. If the page which appears in SERPs is outdated as you suggest, then yes it would help to better optimize the correct page and use anchor text and update links where possible.

Thanks for the advice - it really helped! I guess I should reframe the question now that I have a better understanding of what goals I actually should be pursuing.

I do have a more specific question: There are a few older links that show up as results on the front page when I google the company name. Our site was recently redesigned and there are newer sites with updated, but similar content. If I place a 301 redirect on the older pages, will the newer site take the place of the old address in the SERP? Will I have to edit the older pages in the sitemap? Will I have to throw a rel=canonical on the newer page?

Thanks again for all the help, guys!

To help sculpt your search engine results, I would suggest using anchor text on the page you don't want to appear in SERPs, with a link to the page you do wish to appear.

If the search term you are using is blue widgets, then provide a link from the old page to the new page using "blue widgets" as the anchor text. This method will send a strong signal to search engines as to which page from your site should be returned for the given term.

Follow up by ensuring the target page is optimized for the term as well.
