There are better ways to do this. Why not create a membership badge and get them to proudly display it on their website? Return the favor for those linking if you like but don't make it mandatory, especially if it's a public offer.

Thanks for the reply i noticed on the Learn SEO tab above on the myths page for beginners it says "Having your own version of the Yahoos directory on your site isn’t helping your users, nor is it helping your SEO" I have a links page for reciprocal links is this helping my seo or not?
