If you have old age domain so it is beneficial. Google give some priority to your domain due to its age.

Google give priority on your domain age not the site.

        Thanks

I think it is a pretty small factor. It might be a case of correlation, not causation because older domains tend to have earned more links than newer domains. The exception is very new sites, which may be temporarily "sandboxed" by Google.

Yes, age of domain and age of site are synonymous.

In my experience age of a domain is NOT a ranking factor. Not even slightly.

The correlation is that the older a domain is, the more time it has had to earn links and get exposure. So if you do a study, then you will find that older domains rank better then newer domains. But the reason isn't the domain's age itself.

If you have a choice between "oldsite.com" and "newsite.com", and the oldsite url was purchased 10 years ago but just existed as an unused site, then you will find newsite.com will rank just as well without any advantage nor disadvantage.

Completely agree with Ryan. Ranking will depend upon the kind of links you are getting to your old site. I have personally seen in my previous co, they used to have bunch of old domains with some crappy info.

When started working we have put same amount of effort, what we use to put in new site.

I have a question here...I think Google considers age of the domain also.

As i started a new website with pretty new domain, and got under sandbox and i didn't done anything suspicious. One of the member here suggests me to buy more years, so that i can be out of sandbox. Is it pretty sure, i will be out of sandbox. If yes, how Ryan can say, Domain Age is not a ranking factor then...

                  For Ref: http://www.seomoz.org/q/got-hit-by-google-sandbox-what-to-do-now

                    Hi Vegit,

I reviewed the link you shared. You were provided with excellent advice from Ruth who clearly and repeatedly shared your issue is not in any way related to a Google sandbox, yet you are still bringing up the topic. It seems you do not believe her. I would suggest you consider Ruth as a qualified source of SEO information and trust the advice.

Regarding the advise Thomas shared with you, I hate to disagree with another mozzer but it is absolutely incorrect. I just read it for the first time and am surprised to see it has not been corrected by others, although I did notice someone provided a thumbs down to one of the responses.

Your exact question is asked and answered by Matt Cutts here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnfM_szmDh0

As Ruth shared, the behavior you described...ranking well for a term then disappearing...is typical of a penalty. Despite your assurances of having quality links, I strongly suspect Google feels otherwise. You mentioned having 15 links and half of them using the same term. You also mentioned having multiple directory links.

To clearly answer your question, Is age of a  domain a ranking factor ? No, it is not a ranking factor.

The best guess I have is domain registrars, who earn money from registrations, wish you to believe such and propagated the myth.

I have found recently that age of domain seems to be a huge factor in rank. A competitor does basically nothing right when it comes to SEO. Slow site, no title tags or meta descriptions. Content is lacking and never changes. This site also has very few links pointing to it. I even had a chance to speak with a representative of the company who was very candid with me and she told me they do nothing SEO wise.

The only thing I can point to that gives them the strength to rank high is that they have a lot of pages on their site, the main domain has a good keyword in it and it has been live for 10 years. That is all they are doing.

So, to me, in this particular case, the age of the domain is having a serious affect on its ability to rank high.

There's no way to generalize this, there are a million factors.  I believe rankings these days are pretty query-specific.  Is the search term Informational? Transactional? Navigational? If it's a competitive niche, how many of the competitors re penalized?

One disadvantage of aged domains these days is they may have low quality links and may get penalized. From that point of view new domains are better.
