I am way past OnSite SEO. I want other avenues of earning links, not chasing people for links. I have about 20 articles that I want to put on my upcoming blog. Doing this will not build links immediately, but what about high quality article submission?

      I have example.com & I plan on creating example.com/blog.

I need links to my site within 2 to 3 months. I feel becoming a freelancer for Demand Media (eHow) or a writer for Ezinearticles would be easy & faster than waiting for natural link building. Of course my articles would have embedded links pointing back to my site.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? How about a White Board Friday on this?

Submitting articles is a great way to get some backlinks. I would suggest ezinearticles.com, buzzle.com, and maybe a few other high quality article directories you can find. Here is a list: http://www.articlesdirectories.com/

You usually have to put the link in your bio/about the author section, so keep that in mind as you submit your articles to these websites. And don't submit several articles to the same category of the same website with a link to the same URL over and over again. Not going to do much good. Maybe a a few articles to each site with links to different pages of your site each time.

Thanks Daniel.  My client ships cars from USA to other countries. Obviously these countries have their own import taxes, permits, & fees. Each article is going to be written specifically for that country with links pointing to the specific webpage, not the home page. Currently I have about 20 countries we ship cars to. Thanks for that directory list.

I believe that article submission alone might work if you are competing for easy keywords.  If you are in competition for difficult keywords then you will need something much more potent.

If you have exceptionally good content I would explore the possibility of getting it on highly authoritative sites in your niche instead of submitting it to the content farms that have been heavily devalued in the Panda update.  If you select the sites properly - and if your content meets their standards - then you have a chance to get links that are worth many many times more than content farm links.  (I normally advise against giving any great content away to other websites and passing up short term opportunities to keep the content on your own site and under your control.  I am departing from that here because you said that you need links in just two or three months.  That is the only reason I am not preaching "stay away from article syndication!")

If you don't have that kind of content and you need those links in two or three months then hiring a professional linkbuilder might be something to consider.

If you have a site that already has highly linkable content  in place, a professional linkbuilder is the route that I might take because it keeps the great content on my site.  However, I would be careful that the linkbuilder knows that he is going after a small number of very high quality - editorially awarded links rather than paid links, blog links, directories, forums, PR, etc.  You need really good content for this to work and you need a linksourcing expert because this type of link is difficult to find and difficult to get.

Thanks to both of you. You were both awesome.  The agreement with my client was going to end in 2 months. That's why I wanted to take the short term approach. I took the owner of the company to breakfast today and had a long and honest conversation. He wants to retire and said the long term link building approach is what he wants to keep a stable retirement. He said short term would be too volatile. He is giving me 15% profit sharing + on top of my current compensation so I can be incentivized to stay & grow the company. Over 90% of the business is driven by internet.

EGOL -  I am launching a WordPress blog on my site and keeping the best content for myself. This will be my long term approach. I have about 20 AWESOME articles for my blog AND an eBook that I will give away as a download. I am also going to take your advice on getting my content on highly authoritative sites.

Daniel - I will be submitting the 'okay' articles to ezinearticles.com & eHow just to provide some more links.
