Google Local Whether You Like It Or Not!
-
All,
I understand HOW Google does it, but I want to know WHY...
When I search for something benign like "air conditioners" without providing a city or state, it automatically tells me what is in my area. Which is great for those who are not doing research, but for those of us who ARE, this makes it very difficult and frustrating.
What gives?

Why the two threads? The other one didn't even get an answer yet.
-
Sorry for the confusion but they are two different questions....
-
I feel your frustration; however, you are able to change locations. Google says "The customization of search results based on location is an important component of a consistent, high-quality search experience." And that's why they have not offered anything that turns this feature off.
I personally would love to turn this off, it would greatly help in doing SEO research.

Ah okay lol.
Well in that case, just go into search settings and remove your location data, it will stop assuming you want to see local results for everything

Blarg! How annoying! Thanks for the examination, that helps a lot, especially knowing we are not alone!

You can just remove your location in search settings -> preferences.
