SEO is an all round issue - both link bait (which will attract links) and link building (you actively pursuing links). To get you off the ground I'd recommend some of the latter.

Look at writing a couple of informative articles, creating some strong profiles on 'web 2.0' sites link Hub Pages and Squidoo.
