I am trying to establish whether there is minimum bid on Google Adwords. It seems it is possible to now filter out keywords by 'estimated average cpc' in advanced options in Google keyword selector tools.  I am getting erroneous results, I suspect. It seems possible to say filter out any average cpcs below 10 cents  and this filter still produces large numbers of really good terms -such as "Antibes Car Hire' in my case -It says average cpc below 10 cents yet all the major companies are advertising like Hertz and Sixt -can this be right??

The google estimated cpc and minimum bids are notorious for just flat out being wrong. I have seen terms that suggest less than 10 cents yet when you run a campaign cost over a dollar to be on the first page. Similiarly I have gotten ads on the first page for 25 cents that had suggested bids of over $5 click.

Best bet is to use $100 to test; that is the only way to know. SEMrush and SpyFu both seem to provide more accurate data than Google regarding PPC costs IMHO.

I definitely agree. Google minimum bids are so far off the mark as to be irrelevant. The best way I have found to get a grip on them is to test it out. But keep in mind that every keyword is different.

I found semrush to be more accurate then keywordspy for cpc estimates - from what i have seen Adwords minimum for a non competitve keyword is rarely less than 25-50 cents starting bid for a new account

Yes AdWords average CPC tool gives inaccurate estimates for keyword bids.  My guess is that it has to do with how Quality Score effects cpc.   Determining average CPC without knowing the average Quality Score is not an accurate measure.  If your quality score for the keyword is low, then you need to bid much more than the average CPC to be on the page.  Of If your Quality Score is high, then you wont need to bid as much.  I also have noticed that AdWords estimates seem to be a longer trend..for both volume and CPC.  I guess they are using a yearly average, not the last 30 days
