What is the systematic what of doing keyword research?
I have been optimizing some sites, keeping in mind the completion and relevance. But still I am not happy with the keywords selected.
Can you tell me the international Standard why of selecting keywords for any site? A systematic way, which will work for any kind of website.
Please give me some list of free tools also which I can use for it.
Thanks

Adwords keyword tool
SEM Rush (free up to a point)
When using adwords KW tool make sure you look at exact and broad match (the option is in the left hand menu bar). Search for your local results ie. your country and check out what your competition are ranking for too.
I'd start with your main keyword then work down through long-tail keywords that you'd want to target.
e.g. wedding invitations = top keyword
but 'purple wedding invitations' or 'butterfly wedding invitations' may be popular too.

"Welcome to SEO, the industry where everything's made up and the points don't matter!"

Realistically there's no 'international standard' as everybody does their keyword research slightly differently.
If you're looking for a step by step I recommend starting with the SEOmoz guide - http://guides.seomoz.org/chapter-5-keyword-research - there are a list of tools in there that most of us use.
10 steps to advanced keyword research - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/10-steps-to-advanced-keyword-research
And an alternative approach (though still similar) from Lisa Barone - http://www.searchengineguide.com/lisa-barone/five-steps-to-effective-keywor.php
Read these, combine and compare and you should be able to come up with something that is workable for you.
