        Hello there,

The metric Domain Authority is calculated in total different way then the previous version, so you should not compare the previous DA with the current one, don't panic. You should interpret this as a relative metric to your competitors. So please check how the DA of your competitors is.

The DA also doesn't infect visibility and rankings in Google, it's only a relative metric. Our website https://www.denhollandsche.nl had a DA of 33 yesterday, we went to 25. Our competitors had a better DA in the previous DA  and today we noticed they went further down than ours.

So as we expected, this feels as a way of justice for our hard work and the new DA seems to be more trustworthy.

        Best regards

        Simon Janssen

So who has not work hard for his or her DA? If it has worked in your favour don't think others too have not work hard for it.

            Hello,

That's not correct. I have a feeling that the previous version contained a lot of spammy backlinks and they were part of the index too. We, on the other hand, have claimed backlinks through publications, press releases (the proper way) and never had the feeling we got rewarded for this effort. Competitors had claimed backlinks through linkbuilding campaign by marketing agencies. Their backlink profiles contained a lot of spammy links affecting the DA in a positive way. In my opinion that has changed.

So working hard refers to claiming backlinks as you should by blogging, press releases.

            Best regards,

            Simon

In addition to all the features that went into calculating the old DA, we consider the quality of the site that links to the domain you’re researching. As a result, links from valuable sources will be given more weight in the calculation of DA than links from lower quality sources.

This update includes a better understanding and consideration for the quality of the sites linking to the site you’re researching, and links to a page that redirect to another page. If you’ve seen your DA decrease this indicates that the model determined that some of the links you have don't correspond with ranking well. Your best bet is to focus your link building efforts on relevant sites that are likely to send you traffic.

You can dig deeper into the quality of the linking domains pointing to your site in the overview section of Link Explorer, and reviewing the distribution of your linking domains by DA. You can use the chart to compare your backlink profile to your competitors.

Head to Link Explorer > enter your site > scroll down to the Linking Domains by DA graphic.

In terms of improving your Domain Authority, with the information above in mind, it's best to look at both your on-page SEO to make sure you've covered the basics.

Then you also want to look at your off-site SEO and building more links more links to your site.

There are lots of different areas of Link Building to explore, from patching up broken links, to good ol' fashioned content creation.

Here is a great video by our founder Rand which goes over some easy link building tactics to get you started.

I hope this helps to further clarify! 🙂
