Email and landing page duplicate content issue?

Hi Mozers, my question is, if there is a web based email that goes to subscribers, then if they click on a link it lands on a Wordpress page with very similar content, will Google penalize us for duplicate content? If so is the best workaround to make the email no index no follow? Thanks!

I've wondered about duplicate content also. I wrote a blog post that I liked so much I used it almost verbatim to update a page on my site. I've heard that Google doesn't penalize for duplicate content, but I'm interested to see the responses to this question.

I don't think you have anything to worry about here.

I'm assuming you publish the content on your WordPress site first, before you send out the web-based email? If that's the case, Google is pretty good at identifying the original publisher of content and devaluing other web pages that feature the same content.

If you are worried about it and can easily add "noindex" tags to these web emails, do it. If you can't "noindex" them, I wouldn't be concerned about any duplicate content "penalties".
