Optimising a website - what tools do you use?

Hi all, I have a quick question for you from someone new to this world. What tools do you use when working on website optimisation? I know this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question but currently I have trials running for all sorts of software and know there are loads more out there I haven't yet tried.

I have paid for Link Assist Tools and use: Rank Tracker and Website Auditor

I am currently on a free trial from SEM Rush, Moz and Bright Local

I downloaded ScreamingFrog yesterday (although I think it does the same thing as Website Auditor).

So what's in your toolbox?

If you're optimizing on a specific keyword, here at Moz we have the On-Page Grader - Moz.com. It's a great and powerful tool.

Other tools that I do use are:

Woorank.com - Overview on On-Page SEO status.
GTmetrix.com - SiteSpeed test.
And WebSite Auditor from Seo PowerSuite

I have used just about every tool out there and personally, I have a few that I have continued to use for various purposes. I have ranked them from my most to least favourite by category. Here's a brief outline:

General Purpose:

1) Webceo - very expensive, but TERRIFIC for producing all-in-one audits to present to clients
2) Powersuite

Website Audit Tools (On-Page SEO)

1. SEMrush
2. Website Auditor (Powersuite)

Link Audits (Link Profile, Citation Profile)

1) Ahrefs
2) Brightlocal
3) Majestic
4) Screaming Frog

Social Media

1. Hootsuite

Keyword Research/Competitive Analysis

1. Keyword Finder (kwfinder.com) - amazing tool for KW research!

Outreach Opportunities

1. Pitchbox

2. Serpbook

There are a few other tools I use for specific tasks, but this is the regular "go-to" list.

Much have already been mentioned, including MOZ, I think it depends what kind of optimisation you are talking about, are you after speed gains or content gains. Some of these are in the mix are:

PTEngine - some really nice free heatmapping will allow you to optimise your UX/UI. (FREE too)
Web Page Test - a bit like GTMetrix both very similar.
BrowserStack for testing on multiple browsers.
UsabilityHub - some free user testing
Compressor.io - for compressing images
ScreamingFrog
Do a search for minification of your CSS, JS and HTML - lots of tools for this.
CDN's for serving content.
Google page speed Structured Data testing tool Pingdom
SerpFox - rank tracking
Google Tag Manager is also useful

And there are so many more....
